Default size of stock tyres in 1996 318ti E36

Hey guys.
i just bought an old skool 1996 318ti E36.
it come with 18" rims. In sydney, the law is we are only allowed 2" up and down from the stock size of the rims that come with the car.

For example. If the stock car came with 15" wheels, we are only allowed to go up to a max of 17" or down to 13".

I was wondering if anyone noes wat the stock size of the 1996 318ti rims were? im hoping they were 17".

Thanks,
Jason.

I think this is to stop people from putting excessively large wheels on cars. Bigger wheels normally mean they weigh more hindering brake performance.

Yeah, you have the sport package. In the US the sport package had 16" wheels stock.

And couldn't you just say that you ordered Motorsport wheels (17s) when you bought the car? How would they know? It would be the "stock" wheel from BMW.

well, since 18" is 2"s up from 16", he shouldn't have to worry about it

IIRC, in Puerto Rico, you aren't allowed to make any performance modifications at all, and to increase your wheel size, you have to buy rims that have been approved by the government I think this law comes in a close second, lol

Why would he say he is hoping that they are 17's? Why not just say he is hoping they are 16's?

Just wait until the OP answers what rims he want to put on. No need to argue over this.

Maybe this is a US-only thing but inside the driver's door is a sticker with the VIN and recommended tire pressures. It gives pressures for various tire sizes, including those that fit both the 15" and 16" wheels regardless of what actually came on the car.
