I'm guessing he means that they will ship it just like supersprint exhaust are done. The muffler will have a short pipe with a flared end, then the piping side that connects up to the cat is seperate and is also flared to mate up to the muffler box. That will reduce the sq.ft. required for the box and reduce shipping costs. The muffler itself is kind of light, so you end up paying by the size of the box, not the weight if everything is welded together.

Yeah I think that is what Scott was trying to achieve.

I'm just letting you know my exhaust arrived! It was packaged really well, and the finish of the exhaust is fantastic.

I've booked my car in with my local exhaust shop to get it installed tomorrow

I had my Stromung installed today. I ran into a couple of issues though.

The cat must be positioned slightly towards the rear of the car on the Australian 316i, in comparison to the 318ti. The muffler fits fine, but the piping that connects the muffler to the cat was too long.

My muffler shop had to trim the piping down, and install a replacent flange, so it would fit in between the cat and the muffler. Other than that small issue, installation went great.

However I am a little disappointed with the exhaust tone. It seems a little quiet/similar to my old sports exhaust. I can tell the difference when the revs are higher, but I expected a more noticeable difference in the overall tone. Will the tone change once the exhaust is broken in?

I'm very happy with the look of the stromung though. It looks great!

Did cutting the flange and shortening the pipe, and then installing a new flange on the shorter pipe have any effect on the tone? It doesn't really matter because it was either that, or no stromung but I'm just curious.

I believe the Stromung is only a catback system.

In general muffler sound and tone change a bit with breaking in. Stromung's? I don't know. I would not think that the new flange has anything to do with the sound. Cheers, John
