Okay, the benevolent, wise, and all-knowing officials of the state of California have decided it would be in my best interests to spend $1k on a new OEM catalytic converter. I've tried aftermarket (3 different ones) and still get the CEL. I tried the spacer-on-the-sensor thingie and it still came back. Now I'm going to just get a new OEM part and then I don't have to mess with it anymore. Can someone with a stock cat measure the distance from the rear of the cat to the 2nd O2 sensor? My mechanic needs this measurement for the installation. My rear O2 sensor is no longer in its original location because all of the aftermarket cats were shorter than OEM. __________________ Trixie Alpine White 1996 BMW 318ti Sport | | | 02-14-2015, 11:17 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Are you using the Magnaflow for a CARB compliant Cat? I've used them on my OBDI bmws and they all pass SMOG. I haven't tried a OBDII AF cat yet. I'll try to lift and measure one of the OBDII TI's by Sunday if no one else responds. Still looking forward to meeting you. My 97 blew a head gasket when I was supposed to meet up with you and James in Vallejo. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! OEM cat came with the pipes attached so the O2 sensor just needed to be screwed in. Had cat installed yesterday and so far no CEL. __________________ Trixie Alpine White 1996 BMW 318ti Sport | | | 03-06-2015, 02:33 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | What was the cost of a new oem cat? Can't imagine it was cheap. | | | 03-06-2015, 04:52 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2011 Location: Fremont, CA Posts: 148 | It was about $1K because I had to get it from a BMW dealership. That was the last repair on my list. Now I just need to do maintenance and cosmetic stuff like the headliner and speakers. It's taken me a long time and a few $$$ to get her fixed up, but she's worth it. __________________ Trixie Alpine White 1996 BMW 318ti Sport | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
