Driving to work this morning and the blower motor quit working. I've checked every fuse and all are good, yes every fuse in the fuse box. Looked in Bentley and it looks pretty easy. Anyone got any advise or does and don't on this job. Anyone got a good used blower motor for sale? The final stage unit if you have the digital IHKA(?) might have gone bad -- which is not at all uncommon -- or something further upstream. But, that usually just results in less speeds, not total failure? | | | 07-02-2010, 03:14 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by John Firestone Did you also check the voltages at the motor or exercise it? It hit 34,5 deg C (94 deg F) when I was out, which is a little on the warm side without air conditioning. My car, at least, has it after I got it refilled last month. I think I'll go out for another drive. Good luck with your troubleshooting and let us know how things go! | | | 07-07-2010, 04:52 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Quote: Originally Posted by John Firestone Well, we'd be happy to swap a little of that rain for today's heat. Suppose to be dry tomorrow so might work on it. The wiper assembly rotating rods are right in front of the blower motor, no mention of that in Bentley. Taking out the complete wiper unit to access the blower motor to test for voltage. Hope I'm on the right path and not doing more work then is needed | | | 07-11-2010, 04:37 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | No power to fan 1997 318is Replaced capacitor on climate control 2 years ago and has been perfect sence then. Driving the car a week ago with the air on and the cabin fan just shut off. I turned off the air. Checked all fuses, With car running. A/C on, compressor runs, condenser fan runs, evaporator fan (cabin fan) no voltage does not work. When a resistor pack goes bad does it kill all speeds or just one at a time? Is there a way to test the resistor pack? I'm getting ready to dig that out after I put the blower fan back together. But then there's a relay to power up the switch(?) and a second motor control or power line: to complicate what would otherwise be a dead simple circuit. Got a few good cuts on the knuckles too. Now I've got to track this to the resistor pack and see if that is the issue or maybe a bad relay. Relay K4 was bad. Replaced it and all is good. Thanks for the schematic John F without it I would still be tearing things apart. I'm glad I could help out and that your blower is working again. I think I would expire after a couple weeks of no air conditioning in the heat you guys get. Give me Arctic or Antarctic cold any day, at least you can dress for it! | | | 07-17-2010, 12:49 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | Where is the cabin filter??? Ok where is the cabin filter? There was a bunch on pine needles and muck I cleaned up in the fan motor area. I scraped it all up and cleaned it before I put the fan motor back together. Now everytime I turn on the A/C I get a nice smell of A$$ for about 10 seconds. I can't find one anywhere. This is a 1997 318is It smells bad and after a hard days work it is bad enough to give you a head ache. I'm sure it is always there but I just get used to it...
