I put about 3000 (Hard) miles on it, and it never leaked/consumed a drop of coolant. I pushed 20psi through it fairly regularly. It was a little larger than a 2.8L with an M52 crank. Wiseco pistons, but stock rods because I got let go from my steady paycheck the day I pulled the motor for the original rebuild. Instead of adding rods to the old motor, I decided to go slightly bigger. I had pistons made for an S52 crank and threw some nice Pauter rods in there. While it's all apart, I'm changed exhaust manifolds. I went with a Steedspeed for a number of reasons. 1) I wanted and easier way to have A/C in my car. (Haven't had it, and it sucks!) 2) Recirculate my wastegate exhaust. 3) Should spool a couple hundred RPMs sooner. Plus it's just bad ass.. One drawback worth noting is, it's heavy. I reused the head with S52 cams from the old motor. Mike Radowski at Maximum PSI said I needed new lifters, so I took the opportunity to replace them. This is how it all looks put together. Quite a nice/tight little package. Little things have been slowing me down. I should use studs to mount the turbo to the manifold. I might if/when I take it apart next. It's VERY tight next to oil feed line on the turbo. | | | 08-20-2011, 08:03 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: PA Posts: 283 | My last time out at the track, my clutch finally slipped. I think I've been using a stock e39 M5 clutch that came with the car. Since I'll be at even more power, I contacted Oleg at Clutch Net. Using their red pressure plate which apparently has 60% more clamping force. We talked it over, and finally decided on a 4 puck clutch. We'll see how much I like it on the road. If it's too rough, I might swap in a 6 puck. I'm planning on going to MIR for a 1/4 mile track rental in October. So it'll be in there for that! I'm going to try to have gravity drain the oil for me. If not, I'll have to run a scavenge pump. So right now, I just have to finish up connecting some plugs on the wiring harness and put the manifold on. A friend of mine and I are going to tackle the exhaust/down pipe/recirculating tube/charge pipe to intercooler, hopefully next weekend. I'm going with 3" stainless pipe with two magniflow mufflers. I'd like to keep it quite, but also flow nicely for all the power. Before, my wastegate would dump to atmosphere, for a ridiculous racket. I'd like to make a true sleeper that will take on just about anything that challenges me. How does that work? Only 5 bolts? How does it seal to the head? I like your valve spring compressor jig too! | | | 08-20-2011, 09:52 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2009 Location: Maryland Posts: 265 | subscribed! your building the same motor i'm trying to build, but done have time. are you doing anything to the cylinder head? __________________ Quote: Originally Posted by bubela I’m happy in my blissful ignorant euphoria! There are five 10mm hex bolts that bolt the manifold to that flange. Steedspeed provides 6 stainless gaskets, one for each cylinder between the two peices. I'm not doing anything to the cylinder head. The gasket is a Goetze. | | | 08-21-2011, 02:15 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | That manifold looks bombproof. I love it...One thing is I run the 4-puck clutch now and it is noisy at idle unless thee clutch is depressed. Hope yours is not as noisy as mine. The rubber hangers are courtesy of the previous owner. The bolt through the floor... My buddy used the CNC plasma cutter he made to cut out the brackets he designed real quick. Love that guy. | | | 09-15-2011, 11:16 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: PA Posts: 283 | | | | 09-18-2011, 01:57 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: PA Posts: 283 | | | | 09-18-2011, 04:33 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2007 Location: Gulfport, Florida Posts: 3,208 | So question. Why do you need the scavenger pump? Is it because you are dumping turbo return oil in the oil drain plug?
