Default Help. can I easely put an M44 in a 95 318ti M42

I have looked everywhere trying to find out how hard would it be to use the engine of a z3 1.9 and install it into my 95 318ti. My mother just totalled her z3, the engine and its parts are intact. Can someone give me some info if it will easely fit? what parts are not the same? both cars are standard. The z3 engine M44 has 48k miles. My 318ti has four times more mile.
Suggestions welcome.

thanks.

Depending where you live, you may not be able to run an OBD-I motor in an OBD-II car.

If you are going through the trouble of swapping an engine, I'd part of the Z3 and wait for a wrecked 325/328.

This is just wild speculation on my part, but if you took the engine, the ECU and the engine wiring harness out of the Z3, wouldn't it be fairly straightforward. The M44 should run cleaner emissions wise than the M42, right? Wasn't that part of the purpose of the OBD-II? Is it more complicated than this?
