Default engine sounds like exhaust leak

well i got the m44 running. it idles fine but the at start up it sounds like a leaking exhaust manifold gasket. let it idle for a little and it seems to get quieter. i have checked the gasket it seems to be tight.
is the m44 normally a little noisy and does anybody have any ideals ?
