It wasn't as nice as the ones in the states. I got the buttons at some other electronic supply store. To turn off the car I turn off the red switch. Then I turn off the blue switch for the accessories (strereo). Here is how I wired it. | | | 01-22-2006, 04:32 PM | #20 | Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Jamaica Posts: 62 | I just made a discovery that may work for you Platanos!!!!. You know how I was talking about magnets. Well I just put my old key barrel to a magnet and un jammed it. The barrel now works!!! Interesting!!! I don't want to do it to my Key Barrel in the car because then my new buttons will be useless but you might want to. | | | 01-22-2006, 05:01 PM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Quote: Originally Posted by thekinwc I just made a discovery that may work for you Platanos!!!!. Posts: 52 | If you don't mind, can you tell us how you took off these two bolts, as I too ordered a new ignition. Plus, I'm not sure whether the (current) ignition barrel is broken or what but the key keeps spinning in the keyhole, around and around... is there a way to test if it's broken or if it's just a similiar problem as what's being discussed here. | | | 01-23-2006, 01:16 AM | #24 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | is the area where the magnets reside sealed? or is there a way for dirt/grime to get in there? if it's not sealed, perhaps spray some contact cleaner in there to clean it out? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 01-23-2006, 03:35 AM | #25 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | Quote: Originally Posted by 318ti Coupe If you don't mind, can you tell us how you took off these two bolts, as I too ordered a new ignition. My dealer ship had a way of placing a screw somewhere on the barrel to fix it pemanently however, mine was to far gone. When I went back there with my second broken barrel they had been taken over by germany and "don't do things that way". Try the magnet. It worked on my old key barrel. I'm interested to know if it was a fluke. I think we need a pole as to how many people actually have this problem. I've always felt this was a defect. | | | 01-24-2006, 02:48 AM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | parts here is what i picked up today... http://www.318ti.org/gallery/showpho...ze=big&cat=515 i'm gonna do this tomarrow. the service guys at the dealership said they use chizels to remove the bolts i hope i dont run into too many problems __________________ | | | 01-24-2006, 03:10 AM | #28 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | did you ask why they used the fracture bolts? perhaps now that you have some non-fractured ones in hand you could find some non-fracturing ones to install in place of those? __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 01-24-2006, 03:20 AM | #29 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: PA Posts: 1,906 | good question! i didnt ask why they use them. matbe some type of security issue? but i was just checking out the bently and it says this...the ignition lock cylinder can be removed with the igniton switch assembly attached to the steering column... so why did they tell me to buy the assembly piece? i guess i could use a different bolt, i just have to make sure of the thread count right? __________________ | | | 01-24-2006, 03:39 AM | #30 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | well, the size/pitch of the threads. do they list the metric size on the part description? you could also take them to a hardware store that has a metric bolt sizer chart to figure it out (plate with standard metric size nut receptacles so you can take your bolt and thread it in there to figure out what size it is for sure). __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
