Bought a new car and totally was not planning on it Found this son of a bitch on craigslist for 2 grand. Its a 1998 528i 5 speed with the sport package with 120k. Has every option except heated seats. Rare as hell. Guy overheated the motor and blew the head gasket. Spent 600 redoing the cooling system because he thought he just had a bad radiator. I have an extra head sitting in my shed....Well I guess I have a DD, sigh. 98 is really rare with sport package, wheels worth almost as much as I paid for the car Car looks just like this, put down a deposit, picking it up monday, real pics to follow __________________ -Jeff | | | 12-18-2009, 04:23 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Burlington, NJ Posts: 560 | Wow, great buy... once you go 5, you never go back. IDK, it may be a nice second car if you have kids or for that one time you have to pick your parents up at the airport. e39's just aren't timeless like the 318ti. With the newer model 5 series' flooding the streets, people just see them as last years model. I like the e39 touring though I'd install your head and turn it around for a decent profit. | | | 12-18-2009, 05:41 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | ha, thanks for the encouragement Jess. Its a nice highway cruiser and around town car...nothing special which is exactly what I want. Wagons are badass though I agree. __________________ -Jeff | | | 12-18-2009, 05:53 PM | #7 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | 5 series' are nice for what they are. While they might not be as sporty as the 3 series, they're a heck of a lot more luxurious. Jeff this is an excellent opportunity to make some cash. Fix it and sell it, that's all I'm saying. | | | 12-18-2009, 06:11 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | E39 sports are awesome. My Dad has a 530i sport and its amazing how comfortable yet sporty that car is. That a nice DD you'll have there. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 12-18-2009, 07:07 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 5 series' are nice for what they are. Will still keep the 3 but its just too much to drive in the city too stiff with the 500/600 springs and poly bushings. Plus its getting a stroker motor So I want a DD this may not be it, but ill fix it, drive it for a bit and see how I like it. __________________ -Jeff | | | 12-18-2009, 07:32 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Monterey, CA Posts: 770 | Sell me this car with the spare head. It is really a capable car. I'm a sucker for the e39 touring... I think I posted a pic before of my hatchback caravan.. | | | 12-19-2009, 05:35 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Burlington, NJ Posts: 560 | an e39 is a fantastic all round car. I've had one for 3 years and love it. It's a completely different experience from a 318ti, it's not as harsh or noisy. It IS quick, refined and firm. Here's a shot of mine. People can't believe it's 10 years old. __________________ 1996 318ti - 2000 Z3 2.3 - 2012 MINI Cooper Hatchback | | | 12-21-2009, 09:43 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | got it __________________ -Jeff | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
