Default window bolts

for anyone that has taken the door apart to get to the window regulator and window motor...or that has replaced their regulator themselves...

i need to know what size bit i need to detatch the window motor from the regulator...it looks like a giant torx head...three of them hold the motor to the regulator and i need to get them off so i can put my new regulator in.

i will have some photos of the bolts in about half an hour so you can see what im talking about.

Not sure what size (between 4 and 6 mm i believe) but i would suggest getting a TORX set because BMW uses them alot on e36 and up.

Hard to tell from the picture, but it seems to me that you should be able to buy a set of torx bits at your local Home Depot, for probaly less then $10, (the kind that fit in your cordless drill), I have bought many sets cause they break or strip with use, they come in sets of 8 sizes I believe, or you can buy them individualy for like $1.50 a each.
I am sure you already know this and I have been no help, but hey I am trying.

good call...i could just buy a torx set..

i have a few of the smaller bits for the cordless screw driver, but nothing this big.

i was thinking of just getting the single bit that fit, but i never even thought of just getting a whole set

i think with the new regulator i may attatch the motor with a phillips head instead of a torx...i hate torx!

got it fixed..new regulator in the window...the motor was held in by 3 T30 torx screws.

sad part is i just got a new window switch from bavauto...and it didnt fit really good...it was a super tight fit..as i was forcing it, the cover popped off and little pieces went flying :-( i then had to take it apart and modify it a bit to fit in the plastic trim...and the modified switch probably wont even last that long...and now both of them are a little sketch...its going to be a sad day when i have to spend 70 bucks for 2 switches for the window
