zboot your right but at the same time a teen would be more tempted to do stupid stuff with an m5 than a Ti IMO. Still it was a stupid thing to do and it ended up taking innocent peoples lifes.

It's possible. It'll be interesting to see statistics on teen crashes vs cars they have access to. I'd like to think there's no correlation but hoping doesn't equal reality.

inevitably i think kids will crash. its just a fact of life. i do think, however, the severity of the crash is related type of car. like, sports car vs. economy car. people are less likely to test the limits of their economy car because they are pretty obvious. my first car was a ford escort. i totaled it. **** happens. luckily i walked away without a bruise. if it were an aston martin, porche, lambo, ferrari, lol m5... probably would've been considerably worse.

its a shame it happened, but like a member involved in the original discussion from the m5 boards said, i'll use this situation to drive home a point. kids should not have cars that fast. a stock ti isn't that fast, but i am still glad i've had other cars before this one.

I must confess that I chuckled knowingly when I read this in one of the kid's posts:
"I completley understand where you are coming from assuming that I am irresponsible..that is definetly understandable. I do sometimes make bad decisions but I am young and I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others.."

First, I truely feel for the parents and family of the passengers. That is my main reason for being a passenger in a car for only a few select people I can trust my life with.
Second, I feel a little sorry for the parents, but where were they? I know that some 18 y/o's are able to throw down some $$$ for a car, but come on, offer some guidance, its your damn responsibility. What about a home, college, investments?
I guess this is just natural selection with a few possibly innocents tossed in there.
<end of rant>

i have a friend who received an m5 for graduation and he took me for a top speed run in it, limited of course.. 170 was scary enough.... i didnt want to go much quicker, theres a lot of possibilty for natural **** to go wrong but its mainly out of the drivers control. because at those kinds of speeds your pumping so much adrenaline you have a death grip on the wheel.

but anyways i think the stupidest part is the fact he was doing a top speed run with a full car. 4 passengers right? thats a good, oh i dunno, if theyre all skinny atleast 600 pounds?

The following is a new thread I posted up on M3forum.com, a new thread (the original thread that prompted this response is locked) responding to a 17-year old "e46fanatic09" questions on getting out of speeding tickets.

I will post this up across some other sub-forums as it is a response think is worth repeating, I will post a logical order of the threads at the end of this post.

My response to "e46fantaic09" over at M3forum.com:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx

I read your last post and the responses that came with it, your post and attitude left me with a very sick feeling. I have read a very similar post before, not so very long ago, the thread was on 25-26 January of this year

I will give you the short story and were to finds the threads that pertain to this incident

25 January, on “m5board.com” and 18 year old “AmericanM5” posted a thread asking questions about why his cars bangs when he shifts at speed, later in the thread he states that he is up-shifting at 140mph, after that he got (rightfully) raked across the coals

The thread:

m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=111454

In his second to last post he writes;

I do sometimes make bad decisions but I am young and I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others..and I hope you are not under the impression that I am the one to brag

Care to guess what happened next?

The first clues are at the end of the thread

This 18 year old, Josh, the fellow that says “I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others, Driving his Daddy’s 500hp M5 launched his car off the end of a private runway at 3:30am, and (literally) shattered it against a Live Oak tree following a party. Maybe he was “rolling” too?

The result is Josh and 4 of his friends are dead, all killed instantly

Your statement, so eerie to Josh’s;

“Contrary to what I know your all thinking, I would never drive in a situation where im not in control”

So says (said) Josh

“I do drive safe and I will not endanger the lives of others”

A follow up thread on the crash:

.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=111545&highlight=ocala

.. complete with pictures, personally, the only way I can even tell that this pile of scrap is an automobile is by the wheels/tires in the picture

Other people more knowledgeable than me can identify bits of the wreckage as belonging to an M5, I cannot

If that is what the cars look like I will only imagine what happened to their bodies. I retired from the military after 20 years, the polite term for bodies in this condition is

“Remains non-viewable”

If you cannot figure its meaning, simply stated, the condition of the bodies is destroyed beyond any reasonable means for a mortician to put it back together,

closed-coffin funeral

I am an adult, 46 years old, I was 16 once upon a time and certainly had steel balls such as yourself , but when I was that age I drove a 3-speed flatbed Ford pickup. Not that my parents had the means, but they certainly had better sense than to put me in a car like an M3, (something comparable for the era would have been a hemi Chrysler)

I simply cannot understand over-indulgent parents that would deliberately hazard a 16-year old kid by allowing them to drive an M3, or any high-power car for that matter.

My dear young Mr. e46fanatic09, I know this thread will be lost on you and your (typical) 16-year old thick skull

“this is not me” you will say. You are right, it isn’t, but it very easily could become you. I am sure had you asked Josh, the “americanM5” M5 pilot the same question before the 26th of January this year he would have said the same thing, in fact not three hours before he was killed he did state that very thing.

Smarten-up buddy, nobody here wants to read the next tragic thread about a youngster killing himself and others while driving a BMW, we all love our BMW’s and it hits us a little harder when we hear about these things

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx

Thread order:

e46fanatic09's original thread;

Josh's (americanM5) original thread;

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/sho...d.php?t=111454

This is sickening and makes me seriously reconsider selling my swap manual any longer.

He clearly did this to himself; however having free access to a 'supercar' and information from strangers on the board who cannot evaluate the kid's mental state is (and was) a disaster cocktail.

I shudder to think that the information I provide could some day lead to a tragedy such as this. I am also glad I had the foresight to require each manual to be searilaized to a single owner so that the information is not viraly spread across the planet, and completely out of control.

Wow. The parents. The rider's parents. Their friends.

Somehow saying "I told you so." just doesn't cover it...

How about blowing a tire at 170...

Most (if not all) 16 Y.O. new drivers have never experienced a flat tire and would not be able to cope with it above 50 MPH in my opinion, particularly if it was a front tire that let go. Now triple the speed...

I think my first years learning to drive echoed Mark Twain's remark, that experience improved his luck.

Did you mean to revive a five year old thread?

The age of the thread is irrelevant.

This is a situation, a tragic one at that, that should NOT be forgotten.

Required reading for any new member I think...
