Default DDM MTech front bumper install

I've searched far and wide for a DYI pictorial on how to install this bumper. I tried to install mine today but it seems that I didn't do something right. there didn't appear to be anything other than the side mounts to hold it on.

It all lined up well enough but was I supposed to remove the metal "bumper bar" from the OE bumper? If so, how the heck do you remove it?

Can someone who has performed this mod help me out?

Thanks,

Paul

I'm about to do this in a couple days so when I look at it I can post better info. But yes the metal "bumper bar" is one of the agents aiding you in a crash, so you need to swap it over.

First remove bumper trim. There will be clips all along bump under trim. You will have to push the center of the clips in to remove the clips. Once you have done that take the metel bumper off the old bumper and put it back on the car it actually never need to come off. Then install new bumper and clips. Good luck

I'm not sure I understand. What exactly do you mean "it actually never need to come off"? Are you saying that you can remove the old bumper cover but the metal bar never comes off the car?

I did remove the old bumper and removing that metal bar from it looks like a real PIA!!!

Combine this:

with this:

Done

TLDR: The plastic cover attached to the carrier bar (heavy piece goes behind bumper). That then bolts to the two arm-like brackets up front, four bolts. There are several plastic rivets that into the bumper to the carrier bar to keep them together. These can be found at most hardware stores

It's just a handful of plastic pieces that are probably already broken or ready to. It's okay to replace these when you put on a new cover

Okay, so the piece I've been referring to as the "metal bar" is correctly referred to as the "carrier". Is that correct?

As for the black plastic inserts, they don't look like they'll survive removal but I'm going to give it another try over the weekend (if it ever stops raining here in N.Y.).

Yes, the bar is the carrier. And the black plastic rivets are easy to remove. Pull out the middle piece (shaped like a flat nail, but plastic) then remove the piece it came out of. Get some small-ish cutting pliers like these, but don't cut them

Alrighty then....

I'm certainly going to give it another go. I really need to find a reputable paint shop. My car is Moreau green and I'm almost certain that it's going to look aweful if I trust the wrong people to match the color.

I like the way it looks with the aftermarket chin spoiler on it now even without it being painted. I do want a more OEM look so I ordered the DDM spoiler and M3 mirrors too. Unfortunately, the knuckleheads sent me mirrors for a coupe instead. Oh well....Click image for larger version Name:	IMAG0608.jpg Views:	133 Size:	104.5 KB ID:	14007

Did you specify you needed sedan mirrors?

Let me clarify that the mirrors were purchased from ebay, not DDM and yes, I ordered 318ti mirrors. The seller was good and accepted the return and the correct mirrors are on the way!

Makes sense. I would've purchased the mirrors from DDM though!
