Posts: 26 | I hate this rear wheel hop!!! Any of you guys have any experience resolving the rear wheel hop on take off? I'm not talking about aggressive launch but just regular, leisure driving, the rear end hops really bad, I can almost avoid it by slipping the clutch and feathering the gas. Today I went to the shop and replaced the diff bushing with a Powerflex one (I can make a detailed how to with pics if you guys would like it) since the stock one was cut and also replaced the driveshaft coupler (I have another interesting bit of information about it) but no change in the wheel hop. I aired the tired just as the manual recommends but it didn't help either. Any suggestions? | | | 10-07-2013, 01:57 PM | #2 | Member Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: Cocoa, FL Posts: 73 | My first guess would be shocks. Is there any clunking in the rear? __________________ | | | 10-07-2013, 03:04 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Upper shock mounts? Posts: 26 | No noise or thumping from the rear, shocks don't look bad, although I know about judging something just by looks, Bilstein and they look kinda recent. Last night I ordered the RTAB's and rear subframe bushings as well from Ireland, also I'm fixing to attach my Gopro and record whatever is moving/flexing on the back. | | | 10-07-2013, 05:35 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | With polyurethane it may get worse. I found the car more twitchy. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-07-2013, 07:14 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Fl Posts: 1,353 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti With polyurethane it may get worse. As the trailing arm bushings are what keeps your rear wheels in proper alignment worn bushings can cause weird handling and increased rear tire consumption. __________________ SUPPORT 318ti.org! My IE rear subframe bushings lasted several years until they disintegrated into a pile of polyurethane under by car. I'm so used to it now that I put in a new set. The car sees less and less of the street these days. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 10-07-2013, 07:27 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Fl Posts: 1,353 | Quote: Originally Posted by jafoolii Sorry to butt in but as the convo has mentioned trailing bushed can some one show me where they are as im looking|needing to replace mine. Think of the trailing arm as a 'V' with the point bottom point being where the arm meets the wheel (the hub) and the 2 top points of the V being where the trailing arm meets the sub frame... these 2 top points are where the trailing arm bushings are located. There are 4 bushings in total, 2 on each side. The sub frame goes across the car just in front of the rear wheels. You can easily visually inspect the trailing arm bushings with the rear wheels removed. Hope that helps. __________________ SUPPORT 318ti.org! CLICK THE LINK ABOVE! I had to back off the stiffness of my rear shocks and sway bar on my E46 when I went to urethane and delrin differential mounts. Have your tried that? __________________ SUPPORT 318ti.org! Have your tried that? | I have a set of IE subframe bushings on right now with their trailing arm bushings and I have had no problem with it, Its been more then half a year now. Only complaint was that on install I didn't use enough lube/grease for the trailing arm bushings so its squeaky, but that is also my own fault. __________________ ***328ti Build thread. *** Even more important: SUPPORT 318ti.org!
