Friend of mine gave me a set of HK's for them so im good to go. I'd rather spend my money on go fast parts but to each his own. Quote: Originally Posted by wolferj I have the 10 speaker setup and am now searching for the 4 door speakers... | What size are those? I looked at realoem.com but it didn't list any size info for the speakers. My current "plan" is... - replace the rear 4T's with 5.25's (maybe purchase the adapter, or just make one.)
- put 1" tweeters in the rear and doors
- possibly put something larger than stock in the kick panels (6" or 6.5")
- not sure what to do with the mids in the doors.
The amp and crossovers will have to be dealt with eventually. It will be a while before I do anything because I'm also pondering installing a CarPC. __________________ Real men know how to SEARCH! Besides the BSW midrange and tweeters, I don't know if their is a direct fit replacement since it has to fit in that odd door mounting bracket. | | | 02-19-2010, 04:01 AM | #19 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2009 Location: Columbia MD Posts: 215 | E36s usually have two speakers in each door, one in each kick panel, and then two on the rear deck. The rear speakers usually have two drivers, so a "10 speaker" setup. Convertibles and ti's of course don't have the rear deck, and have dissimilar rear speakers from the coupes and sedans. I'm looking at Bavarian SoundWerks' stage one set (for the M3). It has two pairs of drop-in sized speakers for the doors, another pair for the kick panels, and a pair of 6x9s(!) for the rear deck- all for $500. You can get this package without the rear speakers for $300. For three pairs of decent drop in speakers, this sounds like a deal. Without the rear 6x9s, the only think missing would be a powered subwoofer- the tiny little rear speakers don't add much of anything. If I get the setup for the M3 and it is decent, I would also consider it (minus the rears) for the ti. Not sure yet about the sub. It's difficult to find a good place for one in the ti, while still having full use of the hatch. Something to look into.... __________________ *Except 318ti '97 318ti M-Sport '95 M3 BMWCCA | | | 02-19-2010, 06:47 AM | #20 | Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Stafford VA Posts: 81 | You might want to try upgrading your kick panel speakers (the 5.25) before picking up the midrange and tweeters. The BSW tweeters and midrange are noticably better than stock but their impact on your sound systems overall quality may not be worth the extra 200 dollars to you. I don't regret purchasing mine but I probably wouldn't buy them again. | | | 02-19-2010, 07:28 AM | #21 | That's not Millpoint Blue Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: BNA Posts: 3,161 | Part Numbers For the 10-Speaker System I looked up this info last week and figured I'd post it here in case it's useful to someone else. With my current Blaupunkt deck I am getting engine RPM noise/feedback, which increases with volume level. In my youth (way back in the dark ages), the quick solution was to wire an old condenser (from a distributor) into the power line of the head unit. What is the modern equivalent? My deck is wired in with an adapter harness, very clean install, no funky wiring. Anyone have a suggestion/solution? __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I just read that you recently installed some speakers behind your seats, did the noise start after that? I know you relocated the battery to the rear, perhaps one of the speakers or wires going to the speaker is too close to the positive battery cable? Also, I'm not sure, but would it help if you grounded the speakers to the chassis with a wire somehow since yours are in boxes correct? I know the stock speakers arent physically touching metal, but I'm pretty sure they're grounded via wire somewhere. Also, to be clear, I am using all the stock speaker/amp/headunit wiring with the exception of the headunit harness and the two wires running from the footwells to behind the rear seats for the 6x9's. I really suspect that there might be some bleed in the OEM setup but it just wouldn't be audible at normal playback levels. I hear the bleed primarily when I am using the USB input, which seems to have a reduced output level, resulting in me turning up the volumne substantially to match the normal sound level... __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I really regret cutting my stereo harness. I remember when I did it, I just felt like I was doing something very wrong. I have a Blaupunkt unit as well and at the time I couldn't find an adapter anywhere. I'll probably buy a factory connector and try to mend my rookie mistake | | | 05-31-2011, 02:24 PM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Crutchfields.com is where I got the harness adapter. I know we have a few audio experts on here, so hopefully someone can offer some suggestions. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion.
