Exclamation A scared newbie

All,

I just bought 1997 318TI and it has done 149k miles. I have driven it now for about 300 miles and have had no issues or problems. However, I have a series of niggling worries:
1. the seat heat is continuously on.
2. the SRS light is on. the wire connecting that to the front seat was tugged out by accidentally stepping on it - it brought the CE light on.i conected it back and the CE light has gone but the darned the SRS light is still on.
3. i need a repair manual - does anyone ahve one?
4. can anyone advise me on how to maintain this car - as in what all to check and when.
5. is there a forum center in new jersey?
thank you for your time

Do you have a knob to the right of your instrument cluster? That's where my fog light "switch" is. I just pull the knob on the right. The one on the left is just for the headlights, but looks similar. Hope this helps.

<grin> with the SRS reset tool or at your local dealer for $^5

There are some tools that plug into the connector by the master cylinder under the hood. Peake sells the most common. Not fancy but they will read codes and reset some errors. You need a specific tool for the SRS reset.

FYI teh Air Bag lights are a ongoing reoccuring issue for some cars. It only takes about 1 dealer trip to buy the tool ;P

Do some searching for SRS on this and other BMW forums and youll get the story...

Mine is a '95 ti, so it might be in a different spot on your '97 ti. I'm not sure. Unless it was installed as a separate switch somewhere near the stearing wheel.

You could become a supporter and then rent the SRS tool. It's an easy fix to turn the light off.

Chilton's is a decent manual.
realoem.com is good site to look up parts and #'s.

You can click on the link on the left that says supporters or you can just go here. http://www.318ti.org/forum/payments.php It's is only $10 to join and then if you need to rent a tool the price is listed with that tool.

As to service manuals i'd recommend the Bentley manaul. And on the foglights there is a round button to the right of the instrument gauge cluster, basically dirrectly opposite to the headlight knob. thats where the factor button is located. If it's aftermarket lights then the previous owner could've put the switch anywhere. You might want to look to see if there is another button next to the ASC+T button which is located basically to the left of the steering wheel column by your left knee.

You might also look under the car to see if the lights are connected. I've bought 2 cars that both had lights and no wiring.... ,..arrg.
