Default 1000!!! bucks!!!

oh no!! i found out monday that my clutch is very much so dying! these seems normal as the car has 125K miles on it and i have driven it fast for the past 14K miles. but a new clutch at the dealer(only people i trust for somthing that important) is gonna cost nearly 1000 bucks!!! anyone else have to pay anything like this for the clutch?

get the book and do it yourself...i havent done one on the ti yet but i did it on my jetta and it should be a little easier because on the vdub it was fwd so i had to dissconect pretty much the whole front end...but they wanted like $900 at the dealer to do it, i just went to bap got the clutch and pressure plate for $200 and about 10 hours later it was done....it was my first clutch though so it might be shoter time wise..but my 10 hours was worth $700. but long story short do it yourself!

Find yourself a good independent mechanic and have them do it. Can probably get it done cheaper.. I think I paid several hundred less than that for an OE clutch.

As for doing it yourself. It is not that difficult, but it does take time and does require some special tools. I'd rather spend the money to have somebody do it for me than spend 10 hours struggling with it.. But 10 hours does seem like an awful long time to do it. Shouldn't take that long.

I agree with mohaughn. Depending on how mechanically inclined you are, maybe have an independent shop to do it. Find some good aftermarket parts, do your homework and buy a good kit. Since this is your opportunity to upgrade. I live in California an going rate is about $75-$85 and hour, but my mechanic is good and I have piece of mind at the end of the day. As around the forum if anyone has any info on a kit. Atleast you won't get raped on the parts. I know I'm going to have to upgrade myself. Goodluck!

i got mine done at a very well known mechanic up here in Glendale for $675 with a new crank seal installed so i think 1g for a clutch job u gotta be out of ur mind to do that especially for a stock clutch
