Had busted coolant connecter on the head last year so I changed all heater & radiator hoses & both of the CRAP plastic coolant connecters (block & head) ...I'm pretty sure I used all OEM but ordered from pelican have to find receipt....just called local dealer ..he says "wow been selling those things like hit cakes lately" ..of course it always a bad sign when dealer stocks parts from 12 yr old E36... Obviously there a inherent problem with them...glass plastic if I remember right...still don't understand why aftermarket isn't making these in aluminum yet..hello ecstuning or the like...worst time for me right now....so pissed off ..luv my ti m sport just refreshed all front susp. & new pilot sports alignment otherwise I'd consider looking around....But really want s52 swap at some point but she only has 98,000 miles on her.... | | | 12-19-2011, 10:39 PM | #2 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | There was a thread a while back gauging interest in having them made out of aluminum. I think it was concluded that it wasn't cost effective because the plastic ones are inexpensive and typically last about 150k miles. Now IIRC, the fittings that pelican sold were defective. Member CirrusSR22 had problems with the one on the side of the block not sealing properly. He compared pelican's fitting to an OEM fitting and pelicans fitting was warped. I recommend purchasing one from getbmwparts.com(Tischer BMW) or directly from the dealer. | | | 12-19-2011, 11:28 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2009 Location: pdx Posts: 21 | Yep I was in on that thread..I will find my receipt to be sure but I remember the problems with the non OEM ones thought I ordered BMW OEM ....just wonder why the parts guy at my local BMW dealer said they are selling like hotcakes...maybe even the past Yr or 2 OEM ones maybe have problems..either way I would still pay $$ for upgrading aluminum ones just for the piece of mind... all my stuff/tools r in storage right now so I took it to a local BMW specialist to make sure..I saw the puddle under car & on the block underneath the coolant pipe..I just couldn't believe it broke so soon, changed it 7000 miles ago...nice place they caught a heater hose that was loose but because u have remove intake manifold it's a 6 hour job @ least they said @ $90 hour...funny thing was the mechanic told me he was happy to see me go because Hates doing that job..great | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
