Default 95 318ti no start.

Ok, so I'm posting for my friend on his account, as I cannot figure this problem out after searching and searching and searching.

The story:
The owner, bonzo, for whoever knows what reason just went to town on the wiring on this car. There are miscellaneous wires hanging out in the driver foot well. I have done everything I can to make this car run again, and clean up the wiring, and put the wires back where they had been before. I was infact able to get the starter to crank over by jumping wires 1 and 3 at the EWS II box, but I'm still not getting spark or fuel. The gauge cluster does power up, and everything seems normal, except for the lack of fuel, and spark. The fuel pump isnt even tuning on. The only thing that is not able to be hooked up again is the EWS II system, because it is just totally destroyed.

This car was running perfectly fine before the wiring got ruined. It has a dynan chip, and seriously, ran perfect.

Now, my question is, what is absolutely nesscary to be hooked up just for the car to start, excluding anything under the hood, and such because the only wiring that was messed with, was the wiring in the kick panel, and the ews system. I know this is kind of vauge, but I'm running out of ideas.

Also, to my understanding, for this car to ever have run with the dynan chip, the EWS II must have been disabled at some point, but I'm having trouble getting over the idea that this is a problem regarding the EWS system.

Thank you so much for reading, and please help us out!
Robert/Cory

How about the antenna ring at the ignition? It reads the chip in the key and talks to EWS. I hear the antennas go out from time to time and a new one is only like $30.

Right. But doesn't the ews have to be deleted anyway for the dynan chip to work?

you can not delete the EWS 2 system. it will not start because the EWS 2 system is not seeing the chip inside your key. if it does not see the chip inside the key, your fuel pump will not turn on, but the motor will turn over.

you can not disable it or jump it. the EWS 2 is matched with the computer brain inside your car. it is impossible to disable as far as anyone knows.

if you have a key with chip in it, then the EWS might be broken somewhere (bad wire or ring is messed up)

i hope that helps.. i will think some more for you, but that is my best bet. are you just trying to jump it without a key or something?

ews 1 can be disabled (i think) ., but 2 can not be.

With the Dinan Chip, the EWS 2 has to be Re-Alligned with the key and new computer. the dealer can do that for you, but you do not disable it. are you sure the car worked before the dinan chip install? if you remove the chip and put the old one back in, does it work?

Its a 95, it should be a EWS 1 ,, Or not even have ews. (Not all 1995's did)
Check the fuses carefully, ther are 3 I've found so far that will stop the car from starting.

It has ews 2, the box says so on the side. I guess we will try and piece it all back together. There's so much damn wiring in this car, it's unbelievable.

95, and it has the M package if that makes any difference. His profile says 97, but the 97 he had was totaled two years ago. Now he has a 95.

So, I have this little box, and the connectors are MIA, but I have wires that I could put connectors on that will fit in the slots for this guy. I know this has something to do with it. Apparently this was by the steering column, and the key ring transponder plugs into this. I just don't know what color wires go where.

I have officially ditched the idea of bypassing the EWS, so now I guess I'm I the business of hooking it all back up. :-/

And incase you were wondering why this is so difficult for me... This is why. He really went to town tearing it apart for some godforsaken reason.

Right now, were filtering through everything that is hooked up and tying off and cleaning up everything that is proper as far as we know. But like I said earlier, the only thing that seems to have been actually disconnected/cut are wires including the EWS system. Everything else is just hanging out.

that little black box you have looks like the EWS box (i can not tell for sure since the ones for 97/98 look alittle different)

if so, that is the reason your car will not start. it is trying to read the key. that black box connects the EWS behind the glove box to the RF ring around the key. it is pretty vitiate to have it working.

since it is a 95, you should be able to bypass the EWS all together, but you would have to see how that is done. the ews on a 95 should not be EWS 2. the EWS 2 was like 96+ years. if it is EWS 2, you can not bypass it.

EWS Transmitter/Receiver Module. Yes, it must be connected and functioning for the car to turn over.

Hotmilk, the box says EWS 2, and my understanding is that on early 95 models, they out EWS 2 on some of the cars.

According to RealOEM- EWS II was installed on some cars from 1/1995 on.

then that is your problem. sorry, i did not think they used EWS2 in older cars.

it might be hard, but not impossible to get it working. you just need to know the colors of the wires and follow them to make sure there are no cuts in them. it is probably a mess of wires back there, good look with the project and let us know the outcome.
