I know this is an old thread; just wondering if anyone who has done this swap would offer some insight ie part(s), mods, etc. needed and results/ opinions.

You can also retrofit an e46 zcp rack, fastest 3 series rack available

I put a e46 zhp rack in my ti.

It was really easy, the banjo bolt crush washers should be changed. My tie rods were in good shape, they screw right into the e46 rack, however, the e46 racks do not use the lock plates that the e36s use. The stock cooling line can be reused as well as the steering guibo. It is literally plug and play.

Anyone know of a good source for rebuilt racks? Mine is leaking like crazy. It would be nice to put in a Z3 rack or E46 ZHP (32136757651) rack.

Thanks

I have a source for both ZHP and Z3 rebuilt racks. The ZHP racks are on back order till mid October but the Z3 racks are in stock. If anyone is interested feel free to contact me direct.

Does anyone know what the ratio difference between the Z3 1.8 rack and the e46 ZHP rack?

I have a ti and my wife, a Z3. Z3 steering feels quicker. I doubt that a z3 box in a ti would result in much more resistence.

There was a ZHP on the shop lift yesterday and I counted about 3 turns. Other than the mentioned parts for the Z3 rack you also need to realign the front after install.

I have the Z3 rack and like it. On the track it is not any more twitchy at high speeds. I especially liked it this past weekend at Sebring as I was able to keep my hands at 3 and 9 o'clock in the hairpin without shuffling!
