I picked one of these up at a junkyard for $50 from an old 325i. Then bit the bullet on $100 in small plastic pieces from pelican parts. After the rebuild & good greasing never had a problem again.
I wouldn't suggest spending a bunch of money and time on another used unit that is bound to fail again soon. This is a high failure mechanical item in our cars due to BMW using plastic (like in the window regulators) where they should have used some type of metal.

Oh okay! I thought I read on here that the trays were unique to the ti's but did you have issues with the one you got from the 325i?

Not at all. All e36 assemblies are the same.

My car was towed and the metal cover was pried into and broken in the impound lot. Of course they had no knowledge of how they had attempted to break into my car. Or of the curb damage to my rim from pulling at on a rollback with front wheels at full lock.

Oh I'm sorry about that! That's terrible! Thank you soo much though because the closest ti part out is about 8 hours away from me so now I'll just look for an e36. You have saved me a big headache haha
