Default long time browser finally joined

well hello i would like to introduce myself to the site. my name is glen i live in tn i currently don't have a bmw but i have been here on this site browsing around for a year now interested in the ti. but haven't bit the bullet and got one due to other projects i had at the time. i have always been a honda guy so the bmw thing is a bit out of my comfort zone, but from visiting here alot i have learned alot about them. and things to look for and what not. i just recently sold my last project which was a 94 civic hatch with a f22 swap. and have a 04 ion for sale to just waiting for it to sale then i will get into a ti and have some extra funds for some go fast goodies. so i hope to start a build thread here soon. and hope you will all be willing to help out a noob to the bmw world.

Good luck with the sale of the saturn and good luck with the purchase of your new ti.

bluebimma is the ls1 swap worth it???i know that sounds like a dumb question but if you had to do it all over again would you have just built a s52 swaped and boosted for around the same cost or would you have done the ls1 again.

Tony got his LS1 for dirt cheap and his project is still in the works. I picked up a wrecked M3 for dirt cheap and the part-out alone has funded my s52 swap. Both of us are known to be bargain hunters. Our cars will be parked side by side pretty soon!

i ask this because a swap is going to be in the near future after the purchase. i always tend to swap or boost the cars that i am interested in at the time and boost is like crack. but in the past i have only built and swaped hondas then traded them for other hondas and then traded them for others lol it is a never ending cycle. but there is something about the hatch that i love i like them more than the m3's it just seems to lack in the power department. and this is the car i have wanted for so long so i am planning on this to be the one that i go all out on. no more settling for a cheaper part just to get it done sooner to get to auto x that weekend. only the best of the best. hell i sat down one night and added up the money spent over the last 5 years and it shocked me at what i have spent and what i have to show for it. so like i said i plan on doing this right. but first i have to find out more of what i want to do. lol

They sure will!

As far as the s52 goes, its very expensive IMO, so i didnt buy one. I started saving up for it, then bought an m50 instead and run with mustang gt's, charger r/ts, and the like all day. I dont really walk them, but i can hold my own very easily. As far as the LS1 goes, i have a rebuilt ls1 for 400$ and am building a t56 for it, along with some other mods, looking at a good 400hp for well under 4k once done but the budget on the whole car is 15k.

getting the ls1 cheap is easy it is getting all the other stuff to make it work and look good that cost a pretty penny.

i have some hookups through some junk yards and they will call me and let me know when a m3 or vette will auction so getting a swap is the easy part.

Welcome to my world. My project has been going on for over a year now and I'm in no rush to finish it. My only motivation besides being able to drive a badass car is to have it done before Bimmerfest so I can meet up with Tony in Ohio and drive cross country with him.

Id honestly say, stick with OBDI if you want bmw, OBDII if you go GM, that way it stays compliant as well as with bmw, makes swaps so much easier to do without a headache. I pulled the 2.5L OBDI engine out of my OBDII chassis and put it in my OBDI chassis. The OBDII chassis required some work on the wiring side, the OBDI chassis required one snip of a wire and done. If you want to see those build threads, click the link below and there are links to every build in there.

Great deals are out there. The key is to know which ones to pass up in order to get that KILLER deal. Sure, sometimes you gotta bite the bullet and pay to play. There's rare parts that you have to snatch up before someone else does.

man that is great advice thanx so now i guess i have to pick my poison of choice here and stick with it to save in the future. but i am leaning on s50/52 swap more than the ls1 but the ls1 is easier to get and is a great motor to mod. has anyone ran a m3 swaped ti or gutted m3 against a ls1 swaped e36? by the hp and tq numbers i would think the ls1 would dominate. but weight might hurt it.

Agreed, 100%. The ls1 i bought was listed at 1200$ before the guy had to relocate for his job, then i swooped up to michigan in my 325ti and stuffed it in the hatch for a steal of 400$ and 50$ for his loss of building a nice engine and letting it go.
