Default trans second position?

just a quick question for anyone who has done the M52 swap. i am currently gathering all the parts for my swap and ill be using my stock getrag trans. but, i have heard that you need to move the trans back to make room for the 6 cyl. my question is how is this done?? (also wanting to buy M52B28 or S52 parts. i need all the bits that connect to the throttle foward)

it is even worse if you have a medium case diff, i have done it a few times and the first time i had to bend the rubber engine mounts to line up with the subframe holes and they both broke after about 50 miles of driving, i also had to bend the gear stick as i could not get 2nd and 4th gear. if you can get the prop to shift to the rear a bit the centre bearing can move towards the rear making enough room. i did my 4th 328 conversion into a 318 on friday evening / saturday morning and it has a medium case diff but i managed to find a (20mm) shorter front half of the prop which allowed everything to bolt up in the right place. i also fitted a 325i manifold with a remap and it is an excellent conversion and well worth doing

The transmission support brace has two sets of holes in it, when everything is moved back the other set of holes will line up with the transmission mount ears and the lugs in the chassis. Nothing bent or out of place on my car, it all lined up like it was factory.
