I got this stuff called "seafoam" from my friend - its supposed to be an engine decarb solution. He said put it in through the brake line booster, but I can't get the hose off the connection to the master cylinder, only off the side connected to the engine. When I take the hose off the engine side, the car won't hold an idle for more than a few seconds unless i keep giving it gas. He also said I could put it in through the PCV valve, but i don't know where that is or how easy it is to get to. anyone got any advice for seafoam or got a good way to tell me how to locate the pcv valve? | | | 04-26-2005, 07:42 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Springfield, Va Posts: 164 | anyone? | | | 04-26-2005, 09:50 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: New Hampshire Posts: 68 | The reason your car won't hold idle is because you've opened up a huge vacuum leak by disconnecting the brake booster hose. The idea behind seafoam is to let engine vacuum suck in the stuff through a hose/hole. Why not use the brake booster hose like you planned, but give it enough throttle to keep the engine from dying? You can take the plastic cover off the throttle body and blip the throttle from the engine bay to make it easier. I just unplugged a random vacuum line and kept my thumb over it to keep the car running. I'd suggest not doing it in your driveway because my car SPEWED lot of white smoke. I'm sure the neighbors thought I was nuts. | | | 04-28-2005, 04:21 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 290 | I used the stuff to clean my injector tips during the DASC install. The injectors were filthy, all coated with black gummy crap on the ends. I soaked the tips in a cup of that Seafoam for a minute and then scrubbed them out with q-tips. It does dissolve the stuff well. I didn't run it through the motor though. | | | 05-13-2005, 07:40 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 61 | Quote: Originally Posted by ClubSport I used the stuff to clean my injector tips during the DASC install. I would highly recommend it. When I used it on my 528e BMW, I just unplugged the brake booster hose (from the engine side) and used a regular old squirt bottle (like an Arrowhead water bottle with the squirt tip) to distribute fluid 'slowly' through (as directed). It's clean and painless and most importantly, it worked! BTW, my 528e still runs hella strong to this day with close to 200k. Hope this helps! motorwerk | | | 06-10-2005, 04:17 PM | #8 | Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Green Bay Posts: 30 | What is the actual name of this product? Does it work? Is it worth it? What exactly does it do for the engine? ~Stomp~ | | | 06-10-2005, 04:35 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: SoCal Posts: 61 | Quote: Originally Posted by Stomp What is the actual name of this product?
