I have now looked at two cars Car 1: 5 speed, 1998 base, 93,000 miles Car 2: Automatic, 1998 base, 56,000 miles (yes) Observations: 1. Both cars have the same things wrong with them! Sagging headliners and A-Pillar upholstery! 2. Nice and quick 3. Steering wheel isn't exactly where I would like it to be. 4. Door panels seem cheap. If I get a non-Base car do I get nicer door panels and a tilt steering wheel? | | | 03-26-2012, 10:16 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | the headliners and a pillar upholstery are going to go in any ti, just like the window regulators will at some point. I'm fairly certain the door panels are exactly the same on all ti's and i know that on my active the steering wheel was not a tilt | | | 03-27-2012, 12:01 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | Quote: Originally Posted by Scoot If I get a non-Base car do I get nicer door panels and a tilt steering wheel? | No and no. | | | 03-28-2012, 11:18 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2012 Location: california Posts: 8 | hi scoot - I own a metallic silver 318ti. my baby. but when I saw this car : I think it may be up your ally . its look amazing with the M package. and is , in my opinion, much rarer . http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...nal&listType=1 | | | 03-28-2012, 04:22 PM | #5 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2012 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 28 | Nice. I saw it awhile back on cars.com. Surprised that it is still around. | | | 03-29-2012, 01:41 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | id jump on that white one if i didn't mind the automatic. finding a ti with the sport package with that kind of mileage is unheard of. __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | 03-29-2012, 03:48 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Quote: Originally Posted by teen ti id jump on that white one if i didn't mind the automatic. finding a ti with the sport package with that kind of mileage is unheard of. | Don't rule out an automatic. If I lived in a city I wouldn't have anything else. With either transmission the cars are a blast to drive. | | | 03-29-2012, 03:54 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Ft Defiance, AZ Posts: 686 | Quote: Originally Posted by jca Don't rule out an automatic. But living in the country and starting to get into auto-x and driving schools, the manual became a necessity and i just don't have the use for an automatic nowadays. but i agree 100% they're a blast to drive no matter what __________________ 1999 BMW 318ti 2005 MINI Cooper S | | | 04-04-2012, 02:07 AM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2012 Location: california Posts: 8 | The Alpine White 98 w the sports package - i just found out got sold yesterday for 6600 bf taxes. with 69000 miles on it | | | 04-04-2012, 04:07 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Quote: Originally Posted by Cali318lover The Alpine White 98 w the sports package - i just found out got sold yesterday for 6600 bf taxes. with 69000 miles on it | I think the car was worth that price. | | | 04-04-2012, 04:09 AM | #12 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2012 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 28 | From what I know, I think it was too. I'm doing a pretty exhaustive internet search and I definitely AM able to find cars with less than 70,000 miles and they are in the $6000 price range. I'm in a holding pattern for a month or so but will continue looking. Lots of not so good cars on Craigslist. Lots of people who consider "my car was in a storm and was hit by lots of trees" to not affect the value of the car. Waiting a month gives me the luxury of becoming more educated. | | | 04-06-2012, 01:35 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Quote: Originally Posted by Scoot From what I know, I think it was too. Also, base models are easy to easy to dress up. | | | 04-08-2012, 07:21 AM | #14 | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2012 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 1 | Long time lurker, first time poster... Don't mean to thread jack, but I actually went to buy that car the same day it was sold.... Still trying to get over it. Man that hurt. | | | 04-08-2012, 10:21 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2010 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Posts: 1,364 | Quote: Originally Posted by NateDogg Don't mean to thread jack, but I actually went to buy that car the same day it was sold.... Still trying to get over it. Man that hurt. | I bet it did hurt. I sent a dealer a $500 non-refundable deposit on my Z3. I had never even sat in one much less driven one, but I just knew I wanted that car. My main concern was headroom. Luckily I fit in the car OK. Come to think of it I did the same thing when I bought my ti. I had driven one before, though, and had looked at a ton of ti on the internet. Worked out again, thankfully. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
