Is it a stick shift?

Could be your clutch plates are gone.

It's an automatic, could an oxygen sensor be causing this? or the tranny?

Did you try manually shifting the automatic?

that would be my first guess, an automatic uses the fluid pressure to shift, so if you're low on fluid it will slip, check under the car to see if you're leaking fluid, it should be red

Its hard to guess from your explanation. If it were the torque converter it would act like its revving in gear. But if your able to drive it and its doing it, ****! It could be so many things. A clutch in the tranny a valve in the tranny. You could have broke a line and the fluid drained. Give a bit more detail please =D

Yea I gave a bad explaination.

It's a 1998 BMW 318ti right hand drive with 36k KM on it, I got it from Japan. The car runs great except for the ABS and the other light thats on with the explamation mark. My mechanic told me (After putting it on his computer and scanning that I need an oxygen senor before the cat converter (Its on its way). However the car is slipping when i slow down and sometimes 2, 3rd gear. The RPM's are jumping a little and it is very sluggish. Seems like it should have more acceleration. Maybe I should check the tranny levels?

Another mechanic who just took a look into the hood said it could be my ABS pump and or module. What u guys think?

Cloud9193 yes same problem. It can be so many things, it could be the Vanos, it could be the oxygen sensor before the cat converter could be a hole in the intake hose. I mean the list goes on and on. Only thing to do is to replace the basic parts, O2 sensor, etc etc sit down with your mechanic and put the car on the computer and go through each possibility one by one. This is what I am going to have to do on Saturday. If you find a solution cloud let me know asap thanks

i got the problem fixed last week actually
(im 16 and in no way a car guy and have only had the TI for a week and a half so pardon my horrible explaination)
when i took it to my mechanic he said that you have 2 wheel speed sensors that connect to a sensor on the tranny which tells it when to change gears and stuff, and what was wrong with mine is that one of the sensors was off, so he did a diagnostic and saw that the numbers were off (16.00 at the wheel, 16.04 at the tranny or something like that) and that little bit threw it off so much that the car would put itself into a "safe mode"
so go to your mechanic and have him run a diagnostic and see which sensor needs to be replaced. i think they were like 60 bucks
