I have had an e30 for 10 years (s50 swap and legal in Cali), and I have a Daytona Violet M3. Now I have a 318ti and wonder why I did not get one sooner. Glad to be here. Now I am going straight to the tech section because I have a crazy leak/burn of oil in my 318ti that I cannot figure out. You might want to look at your oil filter housing gasket and the bushing that goes with it. It leaks pretty bad and can be confusing as to where the leak is coming from. Welcome aboard and enjoy the journey | | | 12-01-2017, 07:58 PM | #6 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2017 Location: San Jose, CA Posts: 23 | I thought about the oil filter gasket - but it may be a bit more than just that. Over 3.5k rpm, I get this oscillating rattle feel in the acceleration pedal. I drove another 318ti (95 OBD1) and did not get that. I think there is something else going on - maybe in the CCV system - not just oil filter gasket. | | | 12-08-2017, 07:35 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2012 Location: SF Bay Area Posts: 315 | Oil filter gasket and filter housing gasket/bushing are two completely different things. The housing gasket and bushing are notorious for leaking and in some cases, have actually looked like an oil pan leak when it wasn't. __________________ 01 740iS Cosmos Black 97 318ti Boston Green 99 318ti Titanium Silver 13 X5 3.5XDrive Cosmos Black 97 318ti Alpine White (gone but not forgotten) 88 325iC Schwartz Black (sold) 97 740iL Schwartz Black (sold) 84 633csi Schwartz Black (sold) 96 318ti Alaska Blue (sold) 08 X5 4.8i Titanium Silver (sold) | | | 12-08-2017, 09:29 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2017 Location: San Jose, CA Posts: 23 | that's definitely where I'm going to start. But what can explain that weird vibration over 3500 RPM? Is there a Vanos in this motor? | | | 12-09-2017, 07:11 AM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Dec 2017 Location: East Bay, SF Bay Area Posts: 1 | No VANOS on either the M42 or M44 engine. | | | 12-10-2017, 09:03 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: SoCal Posts: 702 | Quote: Originally Posted by cocofunk What's going on 318ti community. If engine, I had my Wifes's M44 cutting out at >3500 RPM and it turned out to be a Crankshaft Position Sensor. Not sure if that is your issue. The codes reflected my issue as well. Good luck. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! It's not a wheel balancing vibration, it is not a control arm vibration at 55 mph while braking, it is not a motor mount vibration at idle and cold, it is a vibration at 3500rpm and above through the accel pedal. Weird. Oh... And. | | | 12-15-2017, 06:39 AM | #13 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2017 Location: San Jose, CA Posts: 23 | Purple - Queenliness M3. Royal Highness.
