Question 125k miles...is it a bad idea to supercharge??

I have 125k miles on my car. The car runs great, but i dunno if a $4k investment is worth doing with my milage......any suggestions? How many miles do u guys have on ur SuperCharged TIs?

Its German! These things can go for ever if you service them right. I wouldnt worry about mileage though because the truth is that you probably wont get your money back out of the S/C. Mods actually decrease value not increase it. There will be few people willing to pay the extra for the S/C. If your worried about resale value then dont buy the S/C, it will only make it harder for you to sell if your trying to get the money out of it. The S/C is really just for your enjoyment.

I personally wouldn't do it. A s/c or turbo will decrease the life of your engine no matter if it's domestic or foreign and with 125k on it i wouldn't even bother.

Do a compression check on your engine. If you have less then 160psi on any one cylinder, or if your compression isn't the same on all cylinders, I wouldn't do it.

I put my DASC on at 100k, I'm at 140k right now and haven't had a single problem. The DASC will last longer than the motor, and motors are CHEAP. If you blow your m44/m42, just buy a new one for <$1000 and start over.

BTW - This is covered in the FI FAQ Thread: http://318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11797

Why not spend the money on getting it back to new.. rather than a performance mod.. that is what I did with mine.. It's better than new in a lot of ways....

yeah, take dusten's advice get that compression test done, i was thinking the exact same thing the other day, mine's on 126k. i looked at the forced ind. faq. and took his advice to get it checked. before i booked it in at work they had a look at it and they said nah, there's oil all down one side of the engine. so now i plan to do an engine swap instead. this site is so useful.
