The rear windows have a sticker that says the car is equipped with factory alarm. But.....there is no siren, no module, and of course no fobs. I assume the alarm was sold at some point. I can't tell if the car came with it for sure. (Build info below) The question I have is: My central locking works, but the windows/sunroof will not react to the key being held against the stop. Is this due to no module or is that function independent? Also, this car has a Z3 radio. Was the alarm led in the old radio? There is no place near the cigarette lighter for it. Any modules/fobs for sale out there? Do you happen to have a hood switch on your ti? It should be a metal switch on the passenger side on the engine compartment, next to the hood seal. The alarm is also a dealer installed option. So it may be dependent on the dealer where your LED is. Mine is right next to my cigarette lighter. The auto windows up/down is a coding option on your car. Yours may just be disabled. Shameless plug: If you want an alarm badly, I have a BMW alarm module I could sell. No wiring harness or fob. I doubt you need a wiring harness though if you had an alarm installed and it should still be there. __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 02-23-2014, 09:03 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: ATL Posts: 43 | To my surprise, there is a hood switch. The harness is not there. Is yours the later 2 button compatible module? How much would you need for it? The little badge on the trunk lid only shows the car is prepped for an alarm, On mine its very very tiny print.. under the Alarm logo. __________________ Dave - PDX 1995 318ti - Active Black and Tan. 2005 330xi - Mtech 1 - 6spd - Orient Blue/Black | | | 02-24-2014, 02:26 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: ATL Posts: 43 | Thanks, The module wasn't there. I bought one locally, but can't get it programmed. All it will do during the procedure is turn on the warning flashers. Will look at the trunk switch. I was unable to find the single point for the hood switch, so that is not connected. Could that be the reason for programming failure? Looks like you don't need one anymore though. __________________ 2000 M5 -> 1996 318ti -> 1997 328i Instagram: ndrewchow YouTube: MINIzguy | | | 02-25-2014, 04:01 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: ATL Posts: 43 | hood switch Is is safe to assume that there is only one pigtail connector behind the glove box that is for the hood switch? The only one I can find is wrapped up to a wire bundle associated with the wiper/wash control module. There is no such pigtail near the alarm port. I took the module back to the guy I bought it from to see if it was faulty. Fortunately, he was well versed in the E36. I was getting a triple chirp, even though I hadn't programmed the remote. The triple chirp meant 1) the remote was already programmed for the module, and 2) it also meant a door or hood switch was indicating open. Despite the hatch switch functioning properly as far as the dome light was concerned, the alarm module still was seeing the hatch open. Only when the switch was compressed by hand, with a lot of pressure, did the lock function work. Another thing to assist in trouble shooting: unplug the hood and hatch completely and see if you can program. Then add them back one at a time to see which switch is faulty. | | | 06-30-2015, 11:06 PM | #9 | Member Join Date: Mar 2013 Location: Pelham, NY, USA Posts: 90 | Inside door lock switch Mine stopped working a few weeks ago Remote still locks and unlocks doors, do not have alarm siren connected ever so motors in door wor fine, what does inside door lock switch connect to? FYI my gauges warning lights, most of them, stopped working also still have gauges and low fuel, don't have abs, check engine etc Are these problems related? | | | 07-01-2015, 03:16 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Pilsberry, yours is like my Cali. Prewired and switched for the factory Alpine alarm, but the alarm option was not purchased for your sport. It will have the hood switch and the connector under the glove box. The hood switch connector is taped into a harness next to the Alarm harness plug. As far as programming the alarm, you can buy an aftermarket remote that will have a programming chip that inserts into the Alpine module. You can find an alarm harness from a 99 (There are differences between years) and module or just get an aftermarket alarm installed as they can tap into the existing wiring. I opted to go for an aftermarket alarm as I wanted a few more features for the Cali. __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! Instead, U.S. dealers installed an "aftersales", BMW-branded Alpine alarm that has the adapter harness that plugs into the 12-pin alarm connector behind the glove box. The factory-installed alarm is quite different and doesn't need or use the 12-pin connector since it is part of the ZKE, at least in later years. Consequently, you won't find the 12-pin connector in most countries outside the U.S., where people could actually order cars with the factory alarm. (I mention this because folks outside the U.S. may ask why they can't find the "factory" alarm connector that isn't for the factory-installed alarm.) Did you use the BMW mating connector shell and contacts to plug your alarm, like BMW/Alpine did, into the 12-pin alarm connector? The last time I checked, the parts were still available and not so expensive from a BMW dealer.
