Considering how the car was neglected by the last owner, it's probably better I just flush out the transmission and replace the oil. Being a manual, do I just drain it, run new oil for some miles and drain it again and refill? Or do I have to do it at a specific temperature, run the gears and all that other stuff like automatic transmissions? | | | 06-23-2014, 07:39 AM | #33 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | More like changing your engine oil than your Automatic Transmission. I drive around to simple warm up the tranny fluid. I put the car on stands and ensure it's fairly level. There are two plugs that you remove with a large allen socket. I forget which size, I believe larger that 15mm, I remove the lower plug first to control the flow a bit better. Place a collection pan and remove the plug. I use a magnetic plug, I forget it this is standard or something I picked up. Once all the fluid is drained, I remove the top plug and replace the lower plug with a fresh crush washer. I use a hand pump to fill the tranny . Full is level with the bottom threads of the level tranny. Once full, replace the top plug with a new crush washer. I'll look up the torque values for tightening the plugs in the AM. Also you can search for an online Bentley manual and bookmark it. Good luck Michael! __________________ 1998 318ti Sport - "Cali" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, Cali top 1998 318ti Sport - "Max" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior, S52 1997 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Schwartz II/Schwartz sport interior 1995 318ti Active - "Blanca" Alpineweib III/Schwartz leather interior Other Current Bimmers: 2006 530i / 2000 2.3L Z3 / 1997 1.9L Z3 / 1999 540it 1997 318ti Sport - "Huera" - RIP 1995 318ti Active - RIP 1995 318ti Sport - "Tiny" Sold 1994 325i Sedan - "Jade" - Sold 1991 318ic - "Bert" - Sold 1985 635csi sold 1984 533i "Max" Sold 1984 318i sold BMWCCA #160411 SUPPORT 318ti.org! I'm glad Strawman's diff is working for you.
