On older cars they come off easier. If you don't want to put it back on you might try wiggling it a little to loosen it up, but there is a risk of damaging the shift knob. | | | 11-12-2007, 04:40 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Put it in second and pull hard. If it's aftermarket, check for a set screw. If it's stock and you're getting red in the face pulling, you may have to cut it off. Someone here had one where the previous owner epoxied it on. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 11-12-2007, 01:09 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | yup. like the other guys said. pull hard as hell but watch out dont knock yourself out. i found it helpful to open the sunroof, if you have one. | | | 11-12-2007, 02:09 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | give it a little twist and pull and yank. mine falls right off if i grab second to hard so i put a few wraps of electric tape around the inside and now she is super snug. it wouldnt surprise me if someone glued it | | | 11-13-2007, 01:03 AM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: maryland Posts: 17 | i think i might drill a hole in the center then put a puller on it and do it that way, im afraid if i pull to hard i might pull the rod out of the transmission | | | 11-13-2007, 01:45 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | It's connected by a linkage rod; it's not direct. Pull off the top cap (shift guide) and see if there's a bolt or screw. I can imagine someone drilling through and tapping the lever to keep it secure. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 11-13-2007, 02:05 AM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: maryland Posts: 17 | yea, i was wondering if there was something under that | | | 11-13-2007, 04:25 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | Quote: Originally Posted by aceyx It's connected by a linkage rod; it's not direct. That actually sounds like an excellent idea for the auto X and drifters out there with after market shift knobs. Or if you are like me and the perevious owner sawed down the shift arm to make a "home made" short throw shifter. It's a HUGE improvement in feel. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 11-13-2007, 07:13 PM | #13 | Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: NC Posts: 90 | no I mean he cut off half a stork shift arm | | | 11-13-2007, 08:15 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: NJ Posts: 1,625 | hahahahahhahaha... thats funny!
