I have a 96' TI with 147k on it, and lately I've had this weird problem- WHen I stop at a stop sign or wherever, it seems like the car kicks into NEUTRAL and it doesn't wanna go, at first I was clueless to what it was, so I'd hit the gas- n it'd spin the tires and kick into gear and take off, but as it started happening more I got the feel for it.. If I come to an abrupt stop- it does it EVERYTIME, I jus let off the brake and wait for it to kick into gear then I take off... That's the best way I can describe my problem- It seems like the car is going into NEUTRAL jus because I stopped, and it kicks back into gear whenever it wants... by the way my car is automatic and another problem.. not as important but... under the hood I hear this weird little sound.. it's like a CHIRPING sound, sounds kinda like a bird.. it's done it for so long, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to stop it Thanx for your help guys | | | 08-26-2005, 02:36 AM | #2 | Site Moderator Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Naples, Florida Posts: 238 | Quote: Originally Posted by Jaydoo7 I have a 96' TI with 147k on it, and lately I've had this weird problem- WHen I stop at a stop sign or wherever, it seems like the car kicks into NEUTRAL and it doesn't wanna go, at first I was clueless to what it was, so I'd hit the gas- n it'd spin the tires and kick into gear and take off, but as it started happening more I got the feel for it.. If so then its probably your pulleys that are squeaking. Thats what was my problem when I heard a bird under my hood. __________________ Nick 1995 BMW 318iC. It only does it though when I brake hard enough to get the traction control light to flash. It might be something to assist in braking. I dont think its something mechanicaly wrong because my ti is a 96' with only 80,000 miles and it is in sound condition. I will talk to my dad's friend that worked at BMW to see if he knows anything about this. | | | 09-14-2005, 03:43 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: St. Louis Posts: 138 | As far as the braking/shifting problem: I read that if the trany is low on fluid, a hard brake can cause it to all flow forward. Until it has a chance to settle, the trany can slip when you hit the gas. Read the article about changing trany fluid in the DIY links, I think that is where I read about it. Changing the fluid fixed the problem for that guy. __________________ 97 sport | | | 09-16-2005, 06:00 AM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Vermont Posts: 14 | the chirping I just fixed the chirping on my ti. Tried all different things before I found what it was, it turned out to be one of the pullys. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
