Question obd1 Code retrieval

Is there a "gas pedal method' for retrieving engine codes on the obd1 m42?

fact or myth?

yes their is i forgot how it worked but i've done it. I think that you have to hit the gas pedal 5 times in 5 sec or something like that.

it'd be cool if we could confirm a method and add it to the KB.

3dge----- you can't find your radio code????? If it's not in your manual binder in the glovebox, you are going to have to go to the dealer. They may need the vin off your radio so pop it out and carry it in. Do it nOW!! jkjk

(btw- i drove my ti home from DC (when I bought it) with no radio. Once the wrong code is entered 5 times, you have to reset it. Turn the key one click forward for 20-25mins....then re-enter the right code...voila...I was pissed I didn't call the dealer to find this out before my 8.5 hour trip home.)

Engine Codes? Yep - works great. Turn the key to the 'on' position, but don't start the car. Press the gas pedal down all the way (wide open throttle) and release it all the way five times. I can't emphasize enough to do it smoothly, and quickly (but not "fast").

The Check Engine Light should blink with trouble codes, or 'no more codes'.

That's all it does, is blink the check engine light - it's like morse code, except for check engine lights. Mine is a '95 ti. (google for bmw fault code blink or similar)

FACT. There is already a KB article on this. It lists all the ODB-I codes as well.

Good luck...
