Default what diff lube do you use?

I was soooo pissed today... Since i'll be autocrossing this summer, im changing all the oils this week. I went to BMW, and they honest to god couldn't tell me what the stock diff fluid was. Honestly, they work on these cars, they are supposed to be certified, how can they not know what kinda fluid??? sorry, a little ranting.

Anyway, what type of fluid do you guys run?

If you are asking who manufacturer's their fluid, they might not know and it might change from time to time.

I use Red Line 75w90 for the diff.
BG SyncroShift II in the tranny (manual).
ATF or MTL is fine.

I use Lubro Moly ATF III in the tranny and Lubro Moly 75w90 synthetic in the diff, which are correct oils for the car.

Would I be getting noise if I put in 75w140 in the diff?

No but it's unneccesarily thick.

In Florida, you can probably get away with MT90 in the trans.
In colder climates, I'd stick with MTL if you want to be able to drive your car in the winter ;-)

I do it to silence the UUC Stage II rattle wheel..MT90 makes it run silence like a Submarine. Better than the ATF/140 mix UUC recommends.

I was extrapolating from my experience with MTL. When the temperatures get down to the 20's, I notice an increase in effort until things warm up. That said, I wouldn't trade my MTL for anything else.
