I was soooo pissed today... Since i'll be autocrossing this summer, im changing all the oils this week. I went to BMW, and they honest to god couldn't tell me what the stock diff fluid was. Honestly, they work on these cars, they are supposed to be certified, how can they not know what kinda fluid??? sorry, a little ranting. Anyway, what type of fluid do you guys run? | | | 05-02-2007, 04:46 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by 3184ever I was soooo pissed today... BG SyncroShift II in the tranny (manual). ATF or MTL is fine. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 05-02-2007, 06:05 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: la jolla, ca Posts: 222 | I use Lubro Moly ATF III in the tranny and Lubro Moly 75w90 synthetic in the diff, which are correct oils for the car. __________________ Present: `99 M coupe Past: `91 330is; `95 318ti Active; `93 325is; `97 318ti Sport; `89 332is | | | 05-02-2007, 06:26 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Chicago Posts: 102 | Would I be getting noise if I put in 75w140 in the diff? | | | 05-02-2007, 06:34 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: la jolla, ca Posts: 222 | Quote: Originally Posted by 3184ever Would I be getting noise if I put in 75w140 in the diff? | No but it's unneccesarily thick. __________________ Present: `99 M coupe Past: `91 330is; `95 318ti Active; `93 325is; `97 318ti Sport; `89 332is | | | 05-02-2007, 06:43 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Chicago Posts: 102 | thanks for the advice guys! i really appreciate it | | | 05-02-2007, 12:17 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Great White North! Better than the ATF/140 mix UUC recommends. | | | 05-05-2007, 03:36 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: NJ Posts: 1,625 | are you saying it will get that thick when cold? if so, that would kinda suck.. When the temperatures get down to the 20's, I notice an increase in effort until things warm up. That said, I wouldn't trade my MTL for anything else. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
