Default replaced antenna

I have a 1997 318ti and I replaced the antenna ( its the one in the rear compartment mounted on the drivers side fender - comes up through the top of the fender ). Im not sure if its in right. does the antenna move up and down ? or do I need to mount it higher so the short mast sticks up through the rubber base . the old one had the mast broken off so I couldnt tell from that. It has some kind of adjustment on the bottom that u turn counterclockwise but I dont know what it does. it has 2 connections - a plug in and a screw on type. both are connected but nothing. is there a switch in the passenger compartment? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks !

The antennas on our cars do not move up and down. The mast can be unscrewed and removed/replaced. The internals are fixed inside of the drivers rear fender as you stated. It should be in there nice and firm.
