Default Brake upgrade question

I'm sure you guys have seen this question a million times and I've been searching for the answer all morning. I think i have it figured out now so just to confirm:

I just bought a 97 318ti and was surprised to find that my front rotors arent vented (as im sure most, if not all, of yours are). So my question is to upgrade my front brakes to vented rotors do i have to also upgrade my calipers? I've seen mention of the 325 brake upgrade. My rotors dont have too much life left in them and i want to get this figured out in case i can find an upgrade.

Thanks a lot!

ps i'll be posting pictures of my car soon!

just noticed you are from austin! there really arent many ti owners in texas that are on this forum! glad to see another one! and welcome to the forum.

most common thing to do is get newer bmw e46 3 series brakes

You'd go from a 286mm x 12mm solid rotor, to a 330=325mm x 25mm vented rotor or 325=300mm x 22mm vented or 323=286mm x 22mm vented rotors

you'll need the calipers and carriers (see #1 and #2 in the diagram, NOTE: this diagram is for the 318ti non-vented and is for VISUAL purposes only! http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...69&hg=34&fg=05 )

if you buy some used, the carriers should come with them.

Hey Texas! awesome. I'm actually living in Waco right now going to school (TSTC, not Baylor)

Where would one come across the e46 brakes? I'd assume used from a junkyard. Is the install a simple bolt on like you were replacing them with stock calipers or is there modification or fabrication involved?
