I tried HQAutosport and they were unable to supply the harness. Does anyone have a reliable trusted source for the harness? Thanks. We'll see how it works out. | | | 01-18-2020, 02:21 AM | #3 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Welcome to the site. I don’t know how many have done this conversion to comment. I guess you’re the guy to tell us all about it. So, how did it go? Was there a noticeable improvement? | | | 01-18-2020, 06:11 AM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2019 Location: NoCo Front Range Posts: 9 | HI Jim- I don't know yet. Since the kit comes from Britain, it takes a while to get here. They make the harness to order, which takes a few days, and then shipping. I'll share my thoughts on it when it shows up and I get it installed. Thanks for your interest. Was there a noticeable improvement? | It does make a difference, I did this a few years go and I can definitely notice the difference. I also have a Dinan tune though, but the car overall drives and feels more responsive with the coil on plug conversion. | | | 01-20-2020, 06:30 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2019 Location: NoCo Front Range Posts: 9 | That's good to hear. I'm hoping to smooth out the idle a little and maybe cure an intermittent CEL i get that I've had trouble tracking down. | | | 01-20-2020, 06:58 PM | #8 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | If you are using the generic error codes provided with most code readers (Peake, etc.) you will get some wrong ones. You want to use the factory P-codes, which vary slightly form year to year. | | | 01-21-2020, 04:48 PM | #9 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2018 Location: SoCal Posts: 8 | You might want to search at m42club.com for COP conversion information too. They have identified connectors to make your own harness. Parts cost about $75 + coils. If you do this make sure you test that the coils fit through your valve cover openings (24mm dia.). There is an interesting solution using the Delphi e90 coils that I test fit. However after discussing this with my friend and master bmw mechanic I decided that putting coils in the middle of a hot engine block would not last as long as the almost bullet proof original coil pack. But my motivations are probably different than yours. | | | 02-05-2020, 01:37 AM | #10 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2019 Location: NoCo Front Range Posts: 9 | OK, I did the conversion with the GKD Tuning kit and new coil on plug units from Amazon. Installation was straight forward and easy. First impressions are that the engine starts easier, idles smoother, and just seems to run "happier." It's not any faster or anything, but it just seems to pull smoother through the gears. I cleared the CEL I would get intermittently, and so far, it hasn't returned, but time will tell on that. Overall, I am satisfied at this point. | | | 02-05-2020, 02:26 AM | #11 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Posts: 3,156 | Nice! I fixed those a couple of weeks ago, but just have not had the car out enough to see if it returns. We have lots of snow and I don't have winter tires for the ti. | | | 02-05-2022, 02:01 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2012 Location: SF Bay Area Posts: 315 | Thanks! Let me know the codes if you have them. Getting ready to do the same on a couple of ti's and wanting to make certain I'd have an idea what to look for since CA smog testing is such a major pain. __________________ 01 740iS Cosmos Black 97 318ti Boston Green 99 318ti Titanium Silver 13 X5 3.5XDrive Cosmos Black 97 318ti Alpine White (gone but not forgotten) 88 325iC Schwartz Black (sold) 97 740iL Schwartz Black (sold) 84 633csi Schwartz Black (sold) 96 318ti Alaska Blue (sold) 08 X5 4.8i Titanium Silver (sold) | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
