I CRASHED MY 1999 Ti hi evryone, I am new to this website as a member but have been looking at it for the last couple months as a ti owner. Today, i was driving in my neighborhood and it was icy (michigan) i was going only 10 mph but due to the horrible tread on my tires, my car spun 180 and the rear right side hit the curb. I drove it home, and noticed no diffrerence in the drive, but the wheel is bent in . It seems a good 2-3 inches "ahead" of where its supposed to be. Does anyone know how much this will cost? Sorry i dont have pictures, i dont have a camera. Again, this happened in a neighborhood , pretty slow, and i was surprised it looked bent. Does anyone have any idea how much this will cost or where i can get the parts? iassume i need a new control arm? Please help, thanks alot! | | | 01-16-2007, 01:16 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Is the actual wheel bent or was it pushed forward? If you have a camera phone or can borrow a friends camera that would definitly help, but that is still figuring out the problem from a pic online. The best thing to do is to have it looked at by a BMW certified mechanic or by a shop that specilizes in BMWs or high end cars. I know exactly what you are talking about with the ice though. I didnt hit any curbs but I spun out like crazy. I just got some blizzaks and they work great. I would suggest investing in a set since they work so well. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 01-16-2007, 01:26 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Michigan Posts: 46 | yea..umm ill use my niebors..give me a couple minutes | | | 01-16-2007, 01:46 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2004 Location: Northern Michigan Posts: 867 | spun mine today too on the way north from GR....rubbed the front m3 bumper ....back in storage this weekend.... __________________ [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] | | | 01-16-2007, 01:54 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | It's also possible that you have frame damage. It doesn't take much to loose control on ice. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-16-2007, 02:00 AM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Michigan Posts: 46 | | | | 01-16-2007, 02:01 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Michigan Posts: 46 | OH SORRY THATS ONLY ONE..HERES THE OTHERS | | | 01-16-2007, 02:04 AM | #8 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Michigan Posts: 46 | | | | 01-16-2007, 02:05 AM | #9 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Michigan Posts: 46 | thats the last of them... So based on the pictures, how bad does it look? Again, it seems to drive fine but is obviously bent in, maybe more so than the picture shows. How much do you guys think this will cost? | | | 01-16-2007, 02:22 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | You can get wheels straightened for like $75 each. 16" 5 spokers are always up for sale. You won't know how it is until you get an alignment. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 01-16-2007, 02:23 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Quad Cities, Iowa Posts: 2,110 | Well Im not 100% sure but it looks like its mostly the rim. Looks like it has some curb rash anyway so it wont be too big of a deal to replace. Id go down to a pull your own parts junk yard and find a new one. I would still get it checked by a mech though. Stevens right there could be some frame damage, Ive had friends who have done the same thing (yes friendS, I guess its pretty easy to do). Take it in to the dealership or a bodyshop and pray to sweet baby Jeseus that its not frame damage. __________________ "Drive Fast and Take Chances" | | | 01-16-2007, 02:32 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | It's hard to tell from the pictures, but yes, definitely get it look at/aligned. I'd SERIOUSLY consider getting snow tires if I were you. I couldn't imagine driving in the winter wthout them. | | | 01-16-2007, 03:23 AM | #13 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: OHIO Posts: 74 | yeah, get new tires... good luck! | | | 01-16-2007, 05:03 AM | #14 | Member Join Date: Jan 2007 Location: Michigan Posts: 46 | thanks a lot for the help guys! that makes me feel alot better. I thought it might be a huge problem.Ill let you know what happens if any of you are interested. Again thanks for the help! | | | 01-16-2007, 06:23 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: Bend, OR Posts: 413 | new tires defiently...with that bubble going on, that could pop @ any second...and as for winter tires...they're not as needed as possible...you just need tread. So just buy 4 new tires..I'd recommend the Michelin Exalto A/S. I just got new ones after i put my TI into the curb. But i still have to get my rear end redone too.. my rims are bent and the rear rims are tilted inwards on the top of the rim.... /----\ looks kinda like (/ and \ being the tires and the --- being the axle)that from behind the car. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
