They are most likely jacking the price up because small economical cars are in demand right now. It looks to be in good condition and they are factoring that in too. You are absolutely correct that the car isn't worth what they are asking. It's a very nice example of a ti for sure but not 10k nice. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 10-09-2008, 03:05 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Id buy it for about 6 at most. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 10-09-2008, 04:12 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by spidertri It has relatively low miles and is great on gas. Plus, the green was a 90's trend. I actually paid $10,500 for mine back in 2004, when the mileage was 31,000 miles. My mileage is now 98,000 miles, how interesting. With all my current modifications to my car, would you pay $10,000 for it now? __________________ 1998 (July) 318ti, 5-spd OEM Armrest Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD50 CD Player/Compact Drive MP3 Player Diamond Audio 5.25" rear speakers Navman ICN 530 GPS BMWALARM.COM (with comfort settings) after market alarm system Magnecor 8.5mm wires M-Z3 Shifter/Momo Knob Burlwood Dashboard Stromung Exhaust X-brace Racing Dynamics Front Strut Bar Carbonio C.A.I. 17" Rial Rims Vader Seats/Heated/Lumbar Support M-tech Steering Wheel/Front Sway Bar/Front & Rear Bumper Depos/w 6500K Angel Eyes/6000K HIDs Clear Corners M3 Mirrors UUC Light Weight Flywheel/M5 Clutch/M3 Clutch Slave E28 3.46 LSD/Mcoupe Cover/E30 Flanges & Halfshafts UUC S.S. I'd even have to think real hard about a swapped Ti being worth that much. You can easily find good conditions M3s for the same price. And unless you do a "true" M-swap, I'd rather have the M3. We have seen very few "true" swaps on this site. Even if the cars only have 35k miles, they are still at least 10 years old. Unless that car has been completely gone through, there are a lot of things that need to be replaced. As recent for sale threads have shown us, a car is ultimately worth what somebody will pay for it. If you have a nice car, and are willing to sit on it for awhile, you might eventually get what you want for it. If you take the same car and need to sell it in a hurry, you will get far less for it. | | | 10-10-2008, 09:25 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: Bend, OR Posts: 237 | i bought my 97 with less miles than that for 4500... probably in just as good of shape as that one too | | | 10-11-2008, 03:12 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | Let's debunk a myth here. Who decided that only swapped engine cars can be put on a pedestal. Some of us actually like 4 cylinder cars. I'd put my car against anyones, when it comes to real enhancements. For the amount of money I put in it, I could have done a swap two times over. Swapping engines is not the end all be all. I've seen ads say that they get 35mpg city. I can barely get 20mpg city. __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36. I can easily get 28mpg city without really trying. Just drive like a normal person. To the OP, why not look up the kbb, edmunds, and nada values and ask carmax why they are so far off? No haggle pricing doesn't mean they can charge whatever they want. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 10-12-2008, 06:20 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: maritimes Posts: 1,433 | Quote: Originally Posted by mohaughn And unless you do a "true" M-swap, I'd rather have the M3. | whats a "true" swap? I wouldn't have much problems taking out a stock M3 in the form its in now, a couple hundred more bucks and I'd be taking out lightly modded ones too. I couldn't afford an M-motor, does that make my car less "true" as far as the quality of my swap? Personally, Id rather have my 328ti over an M3 anyday of the week. Im just as quick, handle better and look way cooler doing it. Is that car the OP posted worth $10k, not exactly... but is a good shaped Ti with $10k+ invested in quality parts worth $10k? If your into modding your cars at all, like we all are, then how can you say its not worth it? By the time you factor in cost of the parts and the labour to install said parts, would it not make more sense to spend a little more initially on a clean Ti, than down the road? Logic would say yes. __________________ 11/97 Base 328Ti | | | 10-13-2008, 06:01 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Just all of the other upgraded parts, that is what I mean by true... In a street race things like an upgraded rear subframe may not make a difference. In the long haul, or when determining what I think a car should cost, I would take things like all the extra upgraded components into consideration. I wasn't making a judgement about which is a better car to drive around in. I think J!m's book details doing a full rear m subframe and diff swap along with front brakes and suspension. So as a benchmark, I would say that is a true swap. Those subframes are just so darn hard to find. | | | 10-31-2008, 02:32 PM | #15 | Banned Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: los angeles Posts: 80 | again no offense to anybodys car here. but i am inlove with my 318ti. and i was a HONDA fanatic. even got a 08 8th gen civic coupe, hence the name 8th civic lol. that car is grossly over priced. i think the price of our cars will the depend on what was done with the car. lets face it. what we have is one of the rare BMWs around. not alot were sold as not alot of people like hatch here in US. i got mine a little over a grand. 1300 to be exact with 126k. only repair? cam position sensor $88(check engine), ccv valve $54. pretty cheap dont you think? but theres more to spend line the steering wheel in the car has torn leather and need an aircon reley and thats it. good paint and body. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
