I agree that most non-enthusiast drivers just want a car that is cheap to buy, no maintenance necessary, and never give them problem. I am amazed at how people got upset with their cars when very minor things happen and bother them. I love my car. It is more than a tool.

Now I will let your lack of correct info go because you are from marion and there is something weird in the water there. The 318ti, for the last time, was NOT a failure. People tend to think that America is the only part of the world that matters and sometimes mistake America for the entire world. The 318ti did well in Europe so I would only consider it a failure in America not a failure for BMW as a whole.

my wife and I get more comments about our ti's than any other cars we've owned. The responses we get seem to be that people haven't really noticed them before and thought they were new :-)

I don't really care what other people think, the reason I got the ti was that my wife wanted a small car and I wanted to upgrade her e30. The reason I got one is that the wife didn't want me borrowing hers all the time :-)

Now I'm getting tired of showing people what the open air roof is, some people think it's just a cloth top and are shocked when I show them how it opens/closes. If it were advertised better, I bet BMWNA could have sold more.

i got a number of questions on the top too. even over the past few years, i've gotten comments about "nice car" and such ... even from young women! in fact, one girl (guessing high school age) made such a comment and then her mom shot her a look like "what are you doing talking to a strange man?" relax ma, i'm old enough to be her dad! lol
