Yes. One ripped through Manhattan and I drove from Manhattan to Queens while in the eye. Pretty cool site.

Been through a few of them(Hugo,George, & Isabell) I even got chased out of Hong Kong by a monsoon! Honestly, if I had to pick, I'd take a hurricane over an earthquake anyday.
Although hurricanes typically take more lives and cause more damage, there's just no warning for earthquakes. It's all fun and games until something jerks the ground out from under you!

I remember going outside when the eye of Isabell passed over me in Virginia Beach. It was an incredible sight to say the least. There was a distinct line of clear sky against a solid wall of showering rain clouds and extreme wind. Someone managed to capture a remarkable photo of it which made the newspaper the next day.

We tried to go around one while I was on a carrier, that sucked. We didn't even hit close to the center and waves were still crashing on the flight deck

USS Constellation CV64, I was attached to VF-2, an F-14D Squadron out of NAS Oceana. The Connie was docked at North Island, San Diego. Same thing, the flight deck was 70ft above the surface of the water and we had waves crashing over it! Pretty intense.

VF-154, Any time baby!!! I did Tarps on the F-14A's for a few years, I hated it. But yeah, we were on CV-63, yeah that was intense to say the least.

Caught the side of Rita 2 years ago while living down closer to the coast south of Houston. Was out of town when Allison flooded the town with 30" of rain.

I'm originally from Kansas though and I'll take a hurricane any day over a tornado, had family that lost everything in Greensburg this year.

I have been through three... if you take the proper precautions, you should be ok, but still, anything can happen.

My friends in the Mid-west and California are scared to death of hurricanes.. yet think nothing of wildfires, earthquakes, or tornados.. go figure! At least we get a few days notice to button things down and get out of dodge
