I just installed a set of M3 side skirts, but for some reason, they stick out 1cm on both ends? Is this normal? I thought all E36 were supposed to be the same. I got these from DDM, supposed to be OEM replica. | | | 04-07-2008, 05:32 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | Yea they are the same, I see what you mean by them sticking out. But i don't know if that's normal or not. | | | 04-07-2008, 06:47 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Fort Collins, CO Posts: 1,305 | i think i see what you're talking about but they still look great | | | 04-07-2008, 02:39 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | weird! i would think they should line up! looks like chris's might have over hung a little bt as well. heres his thread. http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21246 send him a message and see if he had the same problem. __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 04-07-2008, 03:34 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Waco/Austin, TX Posts: 233 | I've heard over on bf.c that this is a regular problem with the DDM skirts. Call them about it. They'll help you out for sure. Whether its fixing the gap, replacing or refunding they seem to be great with customer service. Edit: I dont think this problem has anything to do with DDM but with the manufacturer of the skirts. __________________ 1997 318ti Schwarz II FB | | | 04-07-2008, 04:31 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Just shows that there is a reason that these are so much cheaper than the OEM units... It may not be DDMs fault that they are manufactured wrong, but they should hold their manufacturers up to higher standards.. If you look at the second set of pictures in clex's post you will see that his side skirts line up perfectly. | | | 04-07-2008, 04:33 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Waco/Austin, TX Posts: 233 | Quote: Originally Posted by mohaughn Just shows that there is a reason that these are so much cheaper than the OEM units... The first picture in the second set you can see that the rear part of the skirt lines up perfectly like it should... None of those pictures are dead on side shots, so it is kind of hard to tell. I also did not realize that they are OEM skirts in the second picture. Do all aftermarket twisties do that? A quick search on bfc shows that about three or four people have had the same problem. They either can't get the jack mounting holes to line up, or there is 5-10mm of overhang on either side. You guys seem to be getting good customer service from them. Hopefully they will address the situation and make it right. | | | 04-07-2008, 06:01 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2003 Location: Walnut Creek, CA Posts: 642 | Yup, skirts were a tad long on each end. Some will notice, others might not. If you are a member here, chances are it will bother you. I would say it shows up more on white or light colored cars. The extra length might not be as noticeable, say, on a black car. __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | 04-07-2008, 07:04 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: Manassas, VA Posts: 4,129 | I think mine are the same way, no big deal really. __________________ 1998 (July) 318ti, 5-spd OEM Armrest Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD50 CD Player/Compact Drive MP3 Player Diamond Audio 5.25" rear speakers Navman ICN 530 GPS BMWALARM.COM (with comfort settings) after market alarm system Magnecor 8.5mm wires M-Z3 Shifter/Momo Knob Burlwood Dashboard Stromung Exhaust X-brace Racing Dynamics Front Strut Bar Carbonio C.A.I. 17" Rial Rims Vader Seats/Heated/Lumbar Support M-tech Steering Wheel/Front Sway Bar/Front & Rear Bumper Depos/w 6500K Angel Eyes/6000K HIDs Clear Corners M3 Mirrors UUC Light Weight Flywheel/M5 Clutch/M3 Clutch Slave E28 3.46 LSD/Mcoupe Cover/E30 Flanges & Halfshafts UUC S.S.
