Default compound charging

just a pipe dream for the time being and may never happen but its something i'd love to do!
for those that have never heard of it this is the engine being both supercharged and turbo charged

my fave example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmscSzFurwg

now in theory it all sounds simple the s/c gives me the low end grunt and then later in the rpm range the turbo spins up and gives the top end power!
they also help each other out by way of the charger gets more air in initially therefore helping the turbo's spin up faster and then the turbo compressors air feeding it to the charger and because the air is already compressed the charger compressors more therefore getting more power all round!

now im no expert and that's just from what I've read from the net but the info I cant find is the stuff that's important ie is there a limit at which the charger can no longer handle the charge from the turbo?
what would be the best turbo for the job?
i'm aware the mapping will be a big job! and be a standalone system needed!
but is there anything else that would need to be considered?
if I did decide to do this instead of a new project I would go all out and uprate all the internals etc

a few pics I've found of people doing similar to 4 pots

unfortunately these were projects done by foreign guys who have tried writing the projects in English therefore not very informative on the technical front!
now plan to speak to some experts about the possibilities but want to be armed with as much knowledge and as many relevant questions I can! so your thoughts please gents....

interesting read although this covers compound charging using 2 turbo's http://www.motorsport-developments.c...AF307.tech.pdf

but covers how it all works a lot better than my waffle above!

also found a lotus that has the same s/c as mine that uses a 6262 precision billet ball bearing turbo so that atleast gives me a point in the right direction of what can be done and it looks pretty quick too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DD2XAs-871o & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1CFqoM7spY

Nice! Dumb question, but what octane would be required to run efficently?

even now I run mine on 99 octane so maybe that would be enough
but if not then I've already looked into meth injection systems as I was considering using one anyway if I went for the 3.2" pulley on the dasc

but stuck with the 3.4" with the stage 3 tuning

You could always email Frank (the guy with the compound charged Lotus). He is a very smart guy. I remember seeing that car when it was stock. Now I see it tearing up Mulholland Hwy on any given Sunday morning. It's remarkable that the car is still driving with all of those changes.

My dad has a Lotus so we're part of the Lotus community in SoCal.

HKS used to make a turbo kit for the old supercharged AW11 MR2's... they called it a "Twin Charge". They had a nice emblem for it too...

I've heard of a '88 TwinCharged MR2 running 12 sec 1/2 mile times... and this was almost 20 yrs ago.

As for fuel, my buddy who's into bimmers and mustangs, say that E85 is getting real popular for high HP engines. He says the it burns slower like race gas, but is cheaper... just make sure your fuel system is capable of the higher ethanol content, and wont fall apart.

Otherwise, Torco has some nice octane booster... and there's always water/meth injection too.
