unscrew the radio and pull it out... no need to unplug it... just pull it out enough so that you can see the sticker on the underside of the unit...

it should be a sticker with tons of numbers/codes on it.

write it down.

show it to the parts guy at your local dealer and hopefully they give you the radio code for free.

All you really need from the radio is the serial number.

Also, look for a laminated business card in the glove box that has the code written on it, I believe it is a 6 digit number.

In order to unscrew the radio you need a 5 sided (penta?) wrench (special tool from BMW), but a hex wrench or anything else you can fit in there also works if they aren't too tight (I think I had to use a 2 or 3mm hex wrench). You flip the small black plastic tabs open on both sides of the radio and unscrew the tiny little screws that are behind the tabs. The screws operate like little scissor jack style clamps that put pressure on either side. As soon as they are loose the radio slides right out. Install in reverse.

Ok.....I got a similar question I been trying to get answered for almost a year....

I pulled the battery out of mine to tighten one of the cables and when I reconnected it I got the radio asking for a code (which I have and put in, everything is fine there) BUT on the clock I got this 'PPP' code showing and it wont clear. And the code shows on the clock whether the car is on or off, its on all the time.
Anybody know what that is and how to clear it? I also pulled my code reader to see if it was something motor related and still came up with nothing.

help...please

Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the clock?

No I haven't.....Didnt feel like tearing things out like that.
But I figured this must be somewhat common since it happened when I pulled the battery and I thought it must have happened to someone else before too.
