I've got what I thought was a pretty solid OBD2 scanner but when I brought my 1998 318ti in to a small BMW only shop they were able to pull way more codes, like 9 vs my 2. The format of them was different too, here's what they gave me:
Quote:
Codes found for check engine light: DME codes: 108 supply voltage, continuous 148 interface immobilizer 80 secondary air system 27 idle load fuel trim, limit reached 97 tank leak detect, minor leak 32 idle speed control valve mechanics Antilock brakes (abs/ASC/DSC): 102 throttle actuator mechanical defective 99. Throttle valve potentiometer 103 brake light switch circuits |
My scanner gives me codes I'm a bit more familiar with,
type codes.
- Do I need a scanner that is "smarter" or one that is "dumber"?
- Like if I get a OBD2 <-> USB cable would I be able to use a simple serial program to get a dump of all of these?
