Problem with H&R rear springs

Hi,

I have 323Ti and I made suspension upgrade to it. At first there was Weitec suspension (springs and shock absorbers) and I upgraded it to H&R springs (29970-1) and Koni sport shocks. This kit should lower the car by -35mm front and -15mm from rear.

After that it started to make 'klonking' sound at the rear. Local BMW dealer did the installation work and I took car back to there. They solved that sound was coming from rear springs. First and second round of the spring makes contact and that causes the sound. There is paint worn from the springs at that point. (I attached two pictures to this post where you can see that paint is worn)

First H&R suggested that I should install poor road package to my car but I think it won't solve anything? I think it will only rise the rear end of the car and not solve the problem itself.? After this H&R says they will send me some silicon tube which I should install to top of the springs and that will remove the noise.

I'm realy confused of this situation. Hope someone here have advices and experience of this kind of situations. I thought that H&R is good spring manufacturer but now I'm not sure.

I have not looked at a Ti rear end in a long time but those do not look like the right springs. (too tall)

Are those sport or race H&R's? I dont think my races don't droop that much when I jack up the car

The springs are H&R sports, not Races. H&R part number is 29970.

Hmm, I have H&R sports on my car and they fit the same way around the top without any clunking sounds.

I don't have that much droop travel with my Bilstein sport shocks though..

I'd say it's not the springs. Maybe check to top rear shock mounts. They tear sometimes and that will give you some weird sounds back there for sure.

Check the rear subframe mounts. Once the mounts go the rear sub frame will move up and down on the bushing, which could allow for excessive compression of the springs. The subframe should be centered on the bushings, if there is a more bushing showing at the top when the car is on the ground then it is time for new bushings.

Is it a clunk when you accelerate or when you go over bumps?

The clunk sound comes in low speeds when the chassis makes a big move from side to side. So when I drive to deep hole in the road at low speed or when I turn and climb up tu stand it cloncks. Not very often though.

Hmm. Bushing... In the same installation process there was changed couple bushes to the rear. From bellow link bushes number 3 and 8. Number 8 bushing was the eccentric so could this cause problem?

Edit: Oh and top rear shock mounts was in good condition.

If you had the #3 bushings replaced, then it would not be the bushings. In my previous post I was refering to the #3 bushings. The wear mark on the spring indicates the the 2 top coils are hitting each other. I would have the parts supplier check with H&R.

Yes also #3 bushings was replaced. I have contacted my parts supplier and they have contacted H&R about this problem. There is info about that in first post.

Today I received this silicon tube which I mentioned earlier. It is 3meters long, outside diameter is about 18mm and wall thickness is 1mm. It will probably help to the noise. We'll see how it helps after I install this tube and how long it will last..
