I have a training in Switzerland and thinking about trying to find a junkyard to pull any interesting bits. All I know of is the headlights - they are on the shopping list for sure. Headlight washers would be interesting but a PITA to install. Thanks. | | | 02-09-2010, 02:28 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Foglights that are useful in thick fog, both front and rear. | | | 02-09-2010, 02:34 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: Atlanta, GA Posts: 97 | Quote: Originally Posted by John Firestone Foglights that are useful in thick fog, both front and rear. | How would it work? Is it just a relay switch somewhere on the dash? Do the rear tail lights need to get replaced? | | | 02-09-2010, 05:12 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | You need a few things that give you more control over the fog lights, light the rear fog light filaments and light a rear fog light pictogram in the cluster. For a start, you need the two step foglight switch to switch on first the front fog lights and then the rear ones, and a different light switch to light the fog lights starting from when the parking lights are on. I expect you'll need to add and restore some further items that were pruned from the car. On an E36/2, you needed to: - add some missing wiring
- add a rear foglight bulb
- modify the instrument cluster so that you can see the bulb's light
- change a couple relays
- add some relay and cluster contacts
- change the foglight switch, and finally
- add the rear fog light pins that were deleted from the tail light assemblies (everything else is there).
Whew. That's not going to fit in my suitcase. Were all the tails clear or only certain years? I like the idea of trying to get the rear battery mount. That would be interesting. | | | 02-09-2010, 06:59 PM | #8 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by 318pilot Were all the tails clear or only certain years? | only certain countries/regions got clear lights. For those of us NOT going to Switzerland, is it possible to import the parts. Probably $200 for part + $200 shipping? We need to find an importer! | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
