No problem. I too would like to speak with the seller in greater detail. Tell me about the accident history. What happened and what was replaced? Thanks.

I hate cowards that key cars even if (not the case here) car was parked poorly. Sorry for going tangent, just had to let off some steam.

Thanks all for the interest! It seems my ti may be able to go to another ti enthusiast but let me work on finding a new car and we will revisit the sale once I get a 135i in hand.

Re: The Accident - I was at a stop light and a dude in a pickup lost his brakes and hit my right rear end. The damage was not that bad but they ended up replacing the hatch, back M-tech bumper and tail light. It was an ordeal b/c they wanted to replace the rear with a standard bumper and the ///M bumper was more $$$ but it got replaced in the end. All plastic and fabric got replaced on the inside of the hatch including the hood shocks (ya, no more droopy hatch problem). No frame aliment was needed. All OEM parts were used - I made sure of that. It was not that much of a repair job but ended up being in the shop for over a month since the ti's parts were hard to procure.

This is all in the name of a full discloser. So, if you are still reading this and still interested, stay tuned...I will find a 135i soon and post soon. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Dan

Wow, small world. An employee of mine was looking at a car for his daughter today and, knowing that I was looking for a ti for a DD, saw this car on the dealer's lot and asked if I was interested. He ended up bringing it back to work and checking it out. At the time I didn't realize it was this car and ended up trying to negotiate with the shady-ass dealer but they wanted $8k (!) for it and denied the rear impact, even though I had the Carfax printout. I offered them $5k and told them that when they get realistic I'll be waiting.

But yeah, clean car, and exactly as the OP described it. It would have been nice to add to my stable but I guess that's what you get with "Buy here, pay here" lots...oh well...

If it is the same car, that kinda sucks since I was interested in buying it.

Yep, definitely sucks and definitely the same car, right down to the keyed driver's door. Hard to believe I could've had the car for $4k had I seen this thread sooner. Oh well, I guess things happen for a reason.

Probably didn't want to deal with having to sell it, so he traded it in at one of the local dealers and probably got $2k for it...that sucks.

Maybe OP will chime in here and give us the story?

*EDIT* Link to local CL ad:

Default PLEASE READ if looking to buy this car!

Hello All, I am going to chime in here and let everyone know what happened and why I did not give the car back to the ti community. I really wanted to sell it to someone who would appreciate it but I was presented with a deal that I could not pass up. Please read if you are looking to purchase this car.

I was looking for a 135i and at the time I was not able to find a dealer or private seller willing to sell me a car in a price range that I was comfortable with. Due to this, I decided to put some money into the ti and get it up to snuff for the next year or so (I was holding out for the new FT86). I took it to my local mechanic and had them tell me all that was needed to get it back in shape. The total bill was around 4k - no joke - to fix the stuff that needed to be updated. I did not know this when I first posted the feeler.

Not may folks would be willing to buy this for 4k and toss another 3k in parts into it - that's if your doing all the labor. Then, I noticed that Mazda had some end-of-year incentives so I figured what the heck, I will check out an RX8. So, I checked out a 2010 RX8 R3 and got 6k off the price with 4k for my ti. That's a 33k car for 23k a slamming deal when you consider the things needed on the ti.

I can't tell anyone what to do but know this...the pictures on the net show that very, very little was done to the car since the trade in. Like any used car - things will need to be done but if you live in a county that needs to have an emissions check, you will be shelling out $$$ to make it compliant. If you have specific questions, I will answer to the best of my knowledge.

Again, sorry to have not kept it in the community but for me it was the better way to go and I wouldn't have someone PO'ed at me after the sale.
