Trackmaster outputs a csv file to sync to the video using RaceRender. There are a couple different programs out there. Quote: Originally Posted by BimmerBum Very nice... very fast for an autoX. Something we don't turn down. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-07-2011, 09:17 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | can u tell me a little more about how to make videos with the go pro like this? __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 12-07-2011, 11:22 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | I've been trying to figure out how to mount a camera in my track car without a roll bar or harness bar, never thought about a windshield mount, thanks! that looks like it was a really fun course, I'm jealous | | | 12-08-2011, 01:12 AM | #11 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak I've been trying to figure out how to mount a camera in my track car without a roll bar or harness bar, never thought about a windshield mount, thanks! that looks like it was a really fun course, I'm jealous | If you have a passenger seat, the head rest makes for a nice secure camera mount. | | | 12-08-2011, 01:18 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 If you have a passenger seat, the head rest makes for a nice secure camera mount. | I've seen mounts that attach to the headreast, I think the seat back moving would make the image a little unsteady | | | 12-08-2011, 03:00 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Attaching to the empty passenger seat does make the image unsteady. You can mount it to the driver seat though and it looks better. I have rear headrests so I made a bar that attaches across the rear posts and it works nicely. Nice video Steven, course looks like a blast. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 12-08-2011, 03:13 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by Jean H.318TI can u tell me a little more about how to make videos with the go pro like this? | Trackmaster or most logging programs export a csv file with latitude, longitude, mph, and much more. Using RaceRender, you import the video and video csv file. Then you sync up the two. RaceRender exports the video with the overlay of the map and mph. You can get fancy and get an OBD-II logging program that also outputs a file and you can overlay RPM, water temp and water else you can get from the OBD0-II stream. YOu can sync those up by matching the latitude and longitude and merging the two files. The other video I did is . It shows lap times. With the GoPro, there is a lot of wasted video, but you edit it all out. The next version GoPro has remote start which will be nice. Then I could start the camera closer to the start of the timing making it easier to sync. Syncing on the track is easier since I can tell on the csv file when the lap starts as well as when I'm crossing the start/stop. Autocross is a little tougher. I don't autocross much so I haven't played around with it that much. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-09-2011, 03:05 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | Quote: Originally Posted by tiFreak I've seen mounts that attach to the headreast, I think the seat back moving would make the image a little unsteady | Recording video of a car moving at speed on an autocross or road course requires a camera that can record at 60fps in my opinion. My old video with a 30fps HD camcorder is not that good. Use something like the gopro with 60fps at 720p, and the image is much more stable using the same mounting setup. There is good competition in this camera market, so the prices have come down quickly, and now with the hero2 being available, the hero is still a great camera, and dirt cheap. I'm able to reach my gopro while being seated and strapped in, and can operate it while wearing gloves. I have mine set to instant record when started, so one button, and it is one and recording. A lot of people complain about the light, or not knowing if it is recording, but I don't seem to have those issues once I got used to the setup and they did the instant on feature in a firmware update.
