First thing to examine is the rubber intake boot that goes from the airbox to the throttle body. Check that it does not have any rips in it.

When was the last tune-up?

By the way, holding the throttle down on start-up will not help you start the car...

i have checked the intake boot all looks good no rips or cracks. checked the pipes around it.

gearbox and engine all fuel filter air/oil filter changed 2 months ago runs a bit better wont start in the cold properly

i have scanned with code reader and am getting codes for the DME "175 differential intake manifold control circuit electrical" "52 misfire" "62 cylinder 3 misfire" and codes "100 gear monitoring" from the transmission control module i have replaced ignition coil pack and leads, plugs checked the idle control valve replaced crankcase vent valve the misfiring happens when you start the car in the cold after about 8-10 hours it will tick over but takes for ever to start after it warms up it runs better and idles ok has any one come across this before.

Sounds like a MAP sensor or something similar. Check the www.realoem.com for all the sensors on the intake manifold, or call the dealer service center with the code and ask them. (it helps if you order the part from them too...)

Sound like errors due to the bad MAP sensor to me... (effect erors)

air filter is good battery is new

ok after some research i have found that the 175 different intake code was due to the DISA valve somtimes called the change over valve replaced but this did not correct the cold start problem. do you think a crank position sensor could be causing these symptoms i have a spare crank sensor i will fit on friday and i also found that the EGS code for gear monitoring can be due to a output shaft speed sensor located in the rear top of the transmission will change both sensors this friday ill keep you informed on the progress

If either of those sensors was/were bad, I would expect a fault code for each sensor...

If you have the (known good_ parts to swap in, it is worth a try I suppose...
