Default Basic mod suggestions for increasing power/longevity.

First of all, I'd like to apologize if this thread is not posted in the correct category. I'm new to forums and completely new to BMW's.

Anyway I recently bought my first BMW car (1999 E36 318ti MSport pack) secondhand from a fellow uni student. This is not my first car as I have previously owned an AE101 Trueno and DC1 Integra. It is however IMO the best car I've ever owned and driven. And so therefore I decided that I might be keeping this car for a while.

I joined this forum to learn more about these models and to ask experienced owners what are the basic modifications for noob owners like myself where we can increase a little power to build a nice platform before moving on to serious tuning methods. Or if there are certain parts we can purchase or replace on our car to keep it in mint condition for as long as we can. Massive thanks to anyone that can give me advice, links etc...
